✨Teachers as champions of adolescent girls empowerment

👥 In over 200 government schools across Karnataka, teachers trained as Kishori Club Facilitators, are having important conversations with adolescent girls that no one else will. Through Kishori Clubs, they are creating spaces where adolescent girls can ask questions about their changing bodies, overcoming gender norms and most importantly, about navigating the internet safely.

❓Adolescence comes with curiosities that families and schools often avoid addressing. When girls look for answers online without guidance, they encounter platforms designed to be addictive, content reinforcing gender stereotypes, and risks like cyberbullying. What they rarely find: accurate information or adults they can confide in.

✊🏽Kishori Clubs change that.

💡Kishori Clubs are a cornerstone component of the Hosa Dishe programme – an adolescent girls empowerment initiative in collaboration with the Karnataka state departments of education and social welfare, supported by the BT Group and British Asian Trust .

✨Advocating for open-sourced and community-centric AI technologies

📍Gurumurthy Kasinathan took part in 'Building India's Edge in an Age of Algorithmic Power' - a panel discussion organized as part of the ORF-India Think Tank Forum. The event was organized at Nalanda University, Bihar on the 12th and 13th of January.

🌐Gurumurthy highlighted how the concentration of AI infrastructure in a handful of corporations and economies further structural asymmetries across the globe. He emphasized how India can work with policy, public infrastructure and research-backed information on AI to ensure its digital sovereignty in the global economy.

✨When adolescent girls explore digital technologies

🗓️On 28th November 2025, IT for Change conducted a critical digital literacy camp for students from the eighth standard at Gangamma Hombegowda Girls High School, Bengaluru.

⚙️The camp comprised two sessions:

1. A hands-on session introducing the girls to computers and basic digital skills, using Free and Open Source Software.

2. A series of group discussions where the girls shared their personal experiences of engaging with digital technologies and learned about women technologists who contributed to the evolution of computers.

💡Over 60 girls participated in the camp, enhancing their typing skills and mouse control while engaging with the long and fascinating history of computers. The critical digital literacy camp provided the girls with an opportunity to embrace the world of digital technologies, and view it from diverse perspectives.

💡 How can students' proficiency in their mother tongue transform traditional language learning in the classroom?

🎧 The Kathe Khajane uses audio stories to mirror how students naturally learn their mother tongues. This approach introduces students to language through engaging and evocative narratives, rather than abstract grammar rules and structure.

🗂️ It also serves as a rich resource for teachers who often lack contextual support for their multilingual classrooms.
