On Friday, we had our very first Village Time talent show of the 2026-2027 academic year🎤🎷🎭! Students brought their musical theater performance “The Space Between Us,” which was originally showcased at Kigali’s July 2026 Ubumuntu Arts Festival, to the ASYV stage.

We are thrilled to share that ASYV’s Class of 2026 had a 100% pass rate on their national exams! Additionally, for the first time in ASYV's history, more than 90% of the class achieved an A grade test result.

We are proud of you, Ishami grade, and of all the members of the ASYV family that supported your journey to this milestone. 📚🎓🎉

Welcome back, ASYV students!

Our Senior 4, 5, and 6 students returned to the Village on Friday for the 2026-2027 academic year, and classes resumed today. After a welcome assembly brought everyone back together, students spent the weekend settling into their family homes, pitching in on Village cleanup, and reconnecting.

We were excited to welcome all staff back to ASYV yesterday for a back to school seminar and staff retreat to prepare for the academic year together. And today our students returned to the Village in preparation for formal classes to begin on Tuesday. We're thrilled that our family is reuniting!

Check back for more as we embark on the 2026-2027 school year!

✨ ASYV Alumni Spotlight! ✨

Eugene Harerimana (ASYV Class of 2017) is helping shape Rwanda's environmental future. He works with GIZ Rwanda-Burundi, supporting the Ministry of Environment and the Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA) on climate policy, green economy development, and peatland conservation. Through this work, Eugene is advancing sustainable environmental management and strengthening the country's climate resilience.
Beyond his work at GIZ, Eugene is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Project Management to further sharpen his leadership and project implementation skills.

In his own words, Eugene reflects on the foundation ASYV gave him:

"ASYV prepared me in many ways beyond academics. It taught me leadership, responsibility, teamwork, resilience, and service to others. The Village encouraged us to become problem-solvers and lifelong learners, qualities that I rely on every day in my work. It also taught me to believe that no matter where you come from, you can make a meaningful impact if you are willing to work hard and remain committed to your goals. Never let your background define your future. Stay curious, work hard, and don't be afraid to step outside your comfort zone."

Eugene recently returned to ASYV for a visit — this time with his wife, daughter, and a GIZ colleague, sharing the Village that shaped him with some of the people closest to him.

Thank you, Eugene, for building a more sustainable future for Rwanda, and for coming back to visit your ASYV family!

Big thanks to SEED Project Rwanda for hosting six ASYV students, Benitha, Louange, Kelly, Benjamin, Liora, and Divin, as well as coach Jack (ASYV alum of the class of 2013) at their basketball camp from August 3-14! Seed’s mission of using basketball and education to grow the next generation of African leaders is one we’re proud to be a part of. 🏀📚
