Sensitization & Awareness Programme on the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007
A Sensitization and Awareness Programme on the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007 (MWPSC Act) was successfully held on 16 June 2026 at Rabindra Bhavan, Balurghat, Dakshin Dinajpur.
The programme was organized by the Balurghat Sub-Division, Dakshin Dinajpur, in collaboration with Nowpara Teor Samaj Kalyan Samiti, Rainagar, Hili, Dakshin Dinajpur.
The objective of the programme was to create awareness about the rights, protection, maintenance, and welfare of parents and senior citizens as provided under the MWPSC Act, 2007. Discussions focused on the responsibilities of family members, society, and government institutions in ensuring the dignity, security, and well-being of elderly citizens.
The programme was graced by the presence of the Learned Secretary, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Dakshin Dinajpur; the Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO), Balurghat; the District Information and Cultural Officer (DICO), Dakshin Dinajpur; the Officer-in-Charge, Social Welfare Department, Dakshin Dinajpur; the District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO), Dakshin Dinajpur; and Professor Abhijit Sarkar of Hili College.
Among the distinguished participants were Mr. Amulya Ratan Biswas, President, and Mr. Ajit Sarkar, Secretary of Nowpara Samaj Kalyan Samiti. The programme witnessed active participation from government officials, social workers, community leaders, and members of the public.
The interactive sessions enabled participants to gain a deeper understanding of the provisions of the Act and the mechanisms available for protecting the rights and welfare of senior citizens. The programme concluded with a collective pledge to promote respect, care, dignity, and social inclusion for elderly citizens in society.
