The genesis of ekk-aas!
The world is witnessing a rapid economic growth. As we have more purchasing power, we are fast moving towards use-and-throw lifestyle supported by a carbon-intensive economic model. As we use up the earth's finite resources we are simultaneously clogging the ecology with large amounts of waste and toxic effluents. This trend is a threat for our planet and the life that it supports. Simple technological changes will not be enough to address the problem of the hour. Yet we are under pressure to change our lifestyle to mitigate the ecological consequences. We need a fast shift in lifestyle that emphasizes energy efficiency and low carbon emission. Whether you are a businessman, politician, professional, artist or a student; with some creativity, we can make changes in our lifestyle. Lifestyle is at the heart of environmental change. It is the houses that we live in and the materials that we use that contribute heavily to global warming. The present drift in lifestyle towards unconscious evolution gave birth to ECAS. ECAS believes that humanity shapes our environment at first place, rather than environment shaping our behavioral patterns. Human culture is a symptom of our interaction with the physical world, which has changed rapidly over periods measured in decades or centuries. Being aware of our micro-cultures, such as our interaction with products around us, could bring positive impact to achieve Environmental Conscious Lifestyle.
ECAS is pronounced as ek-aas, which is originated from Devnagri script and is made from two syllables, which are ek + aas. Ek means One, whereas Aas means Longing / Desire / Faith / Shelter / Refuge. Thereby holistic translation of ECAS means ONENESS, which imparts a message of togetherness.
Ek-aas is a learning and incubation platform working on research and design projects to explore alternative solutions to environmental concerns. It also aims at reviving Traditional practices, Educating and creating awareness programs. One of our recent product launches is a ZERO Pencil, which is an Anti-global warming initiative aimed at spreading awareness about the Story of Pencil.
