From Milind College to Global Dialogue: A Proud Moment for Ambedkar’s Educational Vision
A Historic Visit to Milind College: Dr. Ambedkar’s Educational Dream Reaches Global Platforms
There are certain moments in life when history, education, and Dhamma come together in a deeply meaningful way. Organizing and leading the visit of Hon’ble Lyonpo Tshering, Home Minister of Bhutan, Hon. Udith Lokubandara, Foreign Affairs Coordinator (SLFP) and Former Monitoring MP – Ministry of Defense & Urban Development, and Hon. Sonam Wangchuk, General Secretary of the Asian Buddhist Conference for Peace, to the historic Milind College campus in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar was one such moment for me.
As a Buddhist monk and also a student of the Law College established under the visionary educational movement of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar through the People’s Education Society, this visit carried profound personal and social significance.
Milind College was never meant to be merely an educational institution. Babasaheb envisioned it as a living movement of social transformation through education — a place where those who had remained outside the mainstream of learning for generations could enter with dignity, confidence, and hope. Even today, every part of this campus reflects that transformative vision.
For me personally, it was a deeply proud and humbling moment that I could contribute, even in a small way, toward fulfilling Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s dream of making these campuses living centers of excellence with international collaboration, intellectual exchange, and new pathways for future generations.
Witnessing distinguished international dignitaries walking through this historic campus, visiting the Vipassana Center, the library, and paying tribute to the sacred Bodhi Tree believed to have been planted by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar himself, was profoundly moving. Their respect toward Babasaheb’s vision and their appreciation for the educational and spiritual legacy of the institution carried deep meaning for all of us associated with this campus.
One particularly inspiring moment was the discussion with respected Principal Dr. Vaishali Pradhan Madam regarding the possibility of future student exchange programs and international academic collaboration. Such conversations demonstrate how Babasaheb’s vision continues to transcend borders and inspire global dialogue rooted in equality, education, compassion, and human welfare.
All our esteemed guests were in the city to grace the ground-breaking ceremony of the International Meditation Center organized by Dhammayana Educational and Charitable Trust on 19 April 2026 at Appawadi, near Sharanpur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
In many ways, this journey — from the timeless caves of Ellora to the educational legacy of Milind College and toward the vision of a global meditation center — represents a continuous stream of the same Dhamma tradition: preserving wisdom, sharing knowledge, and guiding humanity toward peace.
