8th Foundation Day — The Journey of a Lifeboat
Eight years ago, in the quiet lanes of Burnpur, a small group of dreamers gathered around one idea — that humanity should never be conditional. That belief gave birth to Asansol Swarnotori NGO Welfare Society, a humble organization with a mighty vision: to be a lifeboat for helpless people.
The beginning was modest — a few volunteers, limited resources, and an endless amount of faith. We started by reaching out to the forgotten corners of our city — feeding the hungry, clothing the poor, and supporting children who had lost their chance at education. It wasn’t easy, but every smile we brought back reminded us why we had begun.
Then came the trials that tested every ounce of courage we had.
When Cyclone Amphan struck the Sundarbans, destroying homes and hope, our volunteers didn’t stop at sympathy. They waded through flooded roads, carrying food and essentials for weeks. More than six hundred families found not just relief, but reassurance that compassion still existed.
And just when the world began to heal, a new storm arrived — the COVID-19 pandemic.
Fear ruled the streets. Hunger followed silence. Many were left jobless, hopeless, and unseen. Swarnotori stood firm once again. We distributed ration kits, masks, and medicines to families who had nowhere else to go. We listened, comforted, and helped them believe that no one was alone — not even in lockdown.
Our story didn’t stop there.
With Project Assam, we stepped beyond our borders. The flood-hit villages of Dhubri became our new classroom in courage. We built awareness programs, distributed essentials, supported children’s education, and worked closely with women who had silently carried the burden of survival. Each visit taught us something new — that hope doesn’t need luxury, it needs hands that care.
Eight years later, the name Swarnotori has become more than an organization. It has become a feeling — of trust, of unity, of humanity that never gives up. From West Bengal to Assam, from disaster zones to classrooms, our journey is woven with the same purpose that started it all — to stand beside those who have no one to stand for them.
As we celebrate our 8th Foundation Day, we don’t count numbers or achievements.
We count the moments — a mother smiling after feeding her child, a child holding a new book for the first time, a family rebuilding their life after loss. These are the true milestones of our journey.
To every volunteer, donor, and supporter who has walked beside us — thank you.
You didn’t just give your time or money — you gave us belief. And with that belief, we promise to continue sailing — one lifeboat, countless lives, endless hope.
