Dear Editor,
This is in response to the story “Jamiat lends silent support to BJP as Centre continues crackdown on PFI and U.P. government initiates madrasa survey”, published in The Hindu on October 1, 2022.
The story completely misguides the readers as it is highly opinionated and one-sided. The reporter didn’t take the trouble to seek Jamiat’s views on these issues and has based his assessment on mere hearsay and false interpretation.
We would also like to inform you that Jamiat has always stood for the broader interests of Indian Muslims and has always taken a principled stand on issues inimical to Indian Muslim’s interests, whether they be it CAA or Madrassa Survey in U.P. It was Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind under the leadership of Maulana Mahmood Madani which launched nationwide movements across the country against CAA just one day after the law was passed in the upper house in December 2019. On the contrary, the scribe in this article blamed Jamiat as a supporter of CAA and it was only after Shaheen Bagh Movement that Jamiat changed its stance. This is totally false and misguided narrative.
Jamiat would like The Hindu to make its version public and the reporter to apologise for writing a false story.
