There was a time when our home felt emotionally heavy—my husband was battling alcohol addiction and depression, and as a family, we were deeply affected. It was a difficult phase, filled with uncertainty and pain. But instead of giving up, we chose to take action together.

With the guidance of Mind Spa, the fellowship support, and the counselling sessions, we gradually found direction and strength. The programme helped us understand that recovery is not just about one individual, but about healing the entire family. Attending regular counselling, follow-ups, and support meetings gave us hope and the tools to rebuild our lives.

Progress didn’t happen overnight, but with consistent treatment, emotional support, and the compassionate fellowship we received, we slowly began to see change. Today, my husband is in recovery, and our home is once again filled with peace, understanding, and a renewed sense of togetherness.

This journey has shown me that with the right support and commitment, healing is truly possible. We are deeply grateful to the Mind Spa family for walking alongside us in this journey and giving us the courage to believe in recovery.

Col. Pradeep having spent the best 23 years of my life serving as an Army officer, discipline, courage, and resilience were second nature to me. Yet, when I took early retirement, I found myself unprepared for the sudden void. What started as occasional social drinking soon spiraled into a chronic illness—alcohol addiction. To my dismay, I was losing control of my life and drifting away from the very values I had once lived by.
It was my family who became the first line of defense against this illness. Their repeated pleas and painful tears did not stop me, but their unconditional love never wavered. When they realized that willpower alone could not break this disease, they took the courageous step of seeking medical help. That decision became the turning point of my life.
I entered a structured program of detox and recovery in Amritsar . The journey was neither simple nor quick, but with the unwavering support of my wife , I completed a 100-day recovery programme. For the first time, I understood that addiction is not a weakness of character, but a disease that requires treatment, guidance, and fellowship .
Mindspa Society became an anchor in my healing journey. Their approach of psychoeducation, structured recovery, and building connections in a support group allowed me to rebuild both confidence and purpose. My wife walked every step of this journey with me—not just as a caregiver, but later as a mentor. AaaWatching her transform pain into service has been one of my proudest blessings.
Today, as I mark ten years of successful recovery, I realize that sobriety is not a destination but a daily practice. I owe my strength to my family’s faith, my doctors’ guidance, and the fellowship of Mindspa Society. Together, they helped me rediscover life beyond addiction.
Recovery has given me not just freedom from alcohol, but a renewed sense of purpose: to stand as a living example that with family, treatment, and fellowship , one can overcome even the most cunning of diseases.

I never imagined I would become an alcoholic. My father died of liver cirrhosis when I was just nine years old, and I had seen the chaos his drinking created in our home. Watching my mother’s endless suffering, I promised myself I would never touch alcohol. But on my 18th birthday, I couldn’t refuse my first sip—and that single moment began a long and painful struggle.
At first, alcohol seemed harmless. It gave me confidence, helped me socialize, and made me feel in control. But addiction is a disease—it is progressive, cunning, and deceptive. Very soon, I needed more and more to feel the same effect. By the time I finished college, drinking had become routine. Blackouts, mood swings, and reckless behavior became part of my life. People avoided me, and my self-esteem collapsed.
As the disease progressed, I hurt the people closest to me. I lashed out at my wife and children, damaged relationships, and made poor decisions in business. My health deteriorated, and eventually doctors told me I had only three months to live. Addiction had stripped me of dignity, family, health, and hope. That was my rock bottom.
In 2011, I entered a family structured rehab program in Amritsar . I was taught that alcoholism is not about willpower—it is a disease that requires treatment, structure, and daily practice. On 5th September 2011, my new life began. For seven years I lived in sobriety. But when I disconnected from fellowship and became overconfident, I relapsed in 2018. Addiction pulled me down again and again.
Yet, through all of this, my family—especially my wife—stood by me. She became my strongest shield, even training herself in recovery so she could walk this path with me. Her strength and unconditional support helped me find my way back.
Today, I live a simple and beautiful life with my family. But I know that recovery is not a one-time victory—it is a lifelong process. Addiction is a disease, and I must treat it as such. Every day, I have to work on myself, on my character defects, and soberity . Recovery means accepting my illness with grace, living within the treatment structure, and remembering that this disease is powerful and cunning.

Not every mother is perfect.
And according to pediatrician and psychoanalyst Donald Winnicott, she doesn’t need to be.

The “good enough mother” is not one who gets everything right—
she is the one who stays present, loving, and emotionally available through imperfections.

A child does not grow through perfection.
A child grows through safe connection, repair, patience, and acceptance.

This Mother’s Day, we honour the mothers who tried, learned, stayed, and loved in human ways.
Because “good enough” love can become the foundation of emotional wellness.
