Miriam School and Family Assistance

Miriam School and Family Assistance Miriam's Children's Home offers food, clothing and education to over 500 children living in poverty. Two days later, the lady passed away.

History: Miriam Children's Home was first established in 1966 after co-founder of the ministries, Rachel Komanapalli, made a promise to a cancer-stricken lady that she would take care of her two children should anything happen to her. Rachel kept her promise by taking the children into her home. Word spread about her deed and just three weeks later, 25 orphaned children were living in Ernest and R

achel Komanapalli's house- this was the beginning of what would later be called Miriam Children's Home. What We do Now: Given the changes that have occurred in India, we have transitioned our program from shelter based care to education based care where we make sure the child is taken care of physically, spiritually and cognitively through our schools and they go back to their parents in the evening. This ensures that our objectives are achieved and there is more supervision given to each child. On average there is 2 adults to each child (Teacher and parent) and where there are both parents alive, then there is 3 adults to each child. We believe with this approach the risk of institutionalization never occurs. There is dignity, and a intrinsic level of self worth that is given to the child.
