VETERAN LEADER COM. K SREENIVASAN PASSED AWAY
With profound sorrow and deep shock, we report the sad demise of Com. K. Sreenivasan (85), General Secretary of All Kerala Bank Retirees’ Federation (AKBRF), former General Secretary of AKBEF and former Assistant Secretary of AIBEA, today (10.05.2026) at Bangalore.
Com. K. Sreenivasan was a legendary leader of the bank employees’ movement in Kerala who dedicated and sacrificed his entire life for the cause of bank employees and retirees. He led AKBEF as its General Secretary from 1984 to 2000 and functioned as Assistant Secretary of AIBEA from 1989 to 2000
Com. K. Sreenivasan was one of the signatories to our historic 1988 Settlement achieved after a 50-day indefinite strike, in his capacity as General Secretary of AKBEF. He was also a signatory to industry-level Bipartite Settlements during his tenure as Assistant Secretary of AIBEA.
Com. K. Sreenivasan was an employee of the erstwhile State Bank of Travancore. He was an Executive Committee Member of our Union on several occasions and remained a guiding force throughout his life. During the formative years of our Union, Com. Sreenivasan stood firmly with all our struggles and movements. Even in recent times, he actively participated in our Head Office March and Hunger Protest held in September 2024. He was our guardian, mentor and a constant source of strength during difficult times.
His invaluable contributions to the trade union movement and organisational development will always be remembered with gratitude and respect. We had the privilege of honouring him during our Union’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations held at Aluva in 2023.
Even after retirement, he continued his tireless service to retirees by leading the movement under the banner of AKBRF.
His body is presently at Bangalore and is expected to be brought to Kerala on Tuesday (12.05.2026). Further details are awaited.
*We dip our red flag in respectful memory of Com. K. Sreenivasan and pay our heartfelt homage to the departed leader.*
