Justice Karol stated that “loss of domestic care” would be an additional ground, in addition to the heads of damages previously recognised by the Supreme Court.

The court also said motor accident compensation claims should ordinarily be decided within one year. “Such cases should be decided within a year usually,’ the Bench said.

The Court also noted the need to shift from the stereotypical terminology of daily usage from ‘housewife’ to ‘homemaker’.

The top court was hearing a plea filed by Ms. Natarajan, the Congress’ sole candidate for one of the three Rajya Sabha seats from Madhya Pradesh, challenging a June 9 order of the RO and Madhya Pradesh Assembly Principal Secretary Arvind Sharma rejecting her nomination on the ground that she had failed to disclose a pending criminal case in Hyderabad in her election affidavit.

The petition filed by Pransu Jigarkumar Patel challenges CBSE's failure to declare his result despite an assessment scheme framed for students whose examinations in several Gulf countries were cancelled because of the prevailing security situation in the region. CBSE declared Class XII results on May 13, 2026, and the petition states that Patel's result was not declared and his status was shown as “R.L. (Result Later)”.
