CHETNA Nfd Initiating its work in 1980, CHETNA was established in 1984. CHETNA addresses issues of women’s health and development in difference stages of their lives

CHETNA* meaning “awareness” in several Indian languages and an acronym for Centre for Health, Education, Training and Nutrition Awareness, is a non-government support organization based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. CHETNA addresses issues of women’s health and development in difference stages of their lives from a gender equity perspective. CHETNA supports Government and Non-Government Organisation (GO

and NGOs) through building the capacities of health practioners, educators and programme coordinators enabling them to implement their programmes from a holistic and gender perspective and advocates for people centred policies. Our core activities are capacity building forging partnership and advocacy at local, regional and international levels. CHETNA also develops and disseminates need based gender sensitive behavior change communication material. In 2004, CHETNA was identified as a Regional Resource Centre (RRC) for Gujarat State and the Union Territories of Daman, Diu and Dadra Nagar Haveli by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India (GoI) and Department of Health and Family Welfare (DoHFW), Government of Gujarat (GoG) to provide technical assistance to NGOs to strengthen the implementation of Reproductive and Child Health Programme. In 2014, DoHFW, GoG has recognized CHETNA as a NGO Support Organisation to strengthen the implementation of National health Mission. In August 2014 to 31 March 2016 CHETNA was identified as State Training and Resource Centre (STRC) for Gujarat, Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Have to support NGOs in implementing targeted interventions programme related to HIV/AIDS. CHETNA Outreach has been initiated as an effort to take forward the learning and experiences of 35 years of working in the area of health and Nutrition. This aims to extend the reach of CHETNA’s activities to diverse geographical areas at the state, national and international levels by systematic facilitation, co-creation and mainstreaming of effective evidence based models, promising practices and effective strategies towards holistic gender-sensitive approaches in health, nutrition and education through collective advocacy.

A New Beginning: CHETNA is proud to establish a Day Care Centre at the Bharuch District Jail, in partnership with the District Jail Administration and ICDS (Integrated Child Development Scheme) Bharuch.

The DCC will provide a safe, nurturing, and enriching environment for children below the age of five who are residing with their mothers in judicial custody. Through early learning, play, nutrition, care, and responsive caregiving, the centre will help these children build a strong foundation during the most critical years of their lives.

The Day Care Centre was inaugurated on 3 July 2026. We at CHETNA celebrate not just the opening of a new space, but a step towards a more compassionate and inclusive future—where every child is given the chance to grow with dignity, hope, and care.

🌱 Building Stronger Life Skills Facilitators for Greater Impact!

CHETNA is proud to support the strengthening of the PURNA (Prevention of Undernutrition Among Rural Adolescents) Scheme in the Aspirational District of Narmada, Gujarat.

As part of this initiative, we successfully conducted a three-day Training of Master Trainers on Life Skills from 16–18 July 2026, bringing together 49 dedicated participants, including Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs), ICDS Supervisors, Block Nutrition Managers, PURNA Consultants, and the Empowering Adolescent Project team for an enriching and collaborative learning experience.

The training was facilitated by our dedicated Master Trainers-Pallavi Patel, Shraddha Betai, Dr. Neeta Shah, and Hetvi Shah-who led participants through a dynamic learning journey using participatory training methods, experiential learning, group discussions, role plays, mock training sessions, and reflective feedback. The interactive approach strengthened both participants' knowledge and their confidence to facilitate Life Skills Education effectively.

Throughout the programme, participants strengthened their:
✅ Understanding of Life Skills Education
✅ Facilitation techniques for training Anganwadi Workers
✅ Confidence to deliver engaging and effective training sessions
✅ Skills to create participatory and learner-centred learning environments

We were honoured by the presence of Dr. Sunita and Ms. Aesha from GACL Foundation Trust, whose encouragement and valuable insights motivated the participants throughout the programme.

As the training concluded, the newly trained Master Trainers left equipped with the knowledge, confidence, and practical skills needed to build the capacities of frontline workers. Their efforts will help empower rural adolescents with essential life skills that foster resilience, informed decision-making, healthy relationships, and brighter futures.

Together, we are investing in stronger facilitators today to empower confident and capable young people tomorrow.

Ganiben Sukhdev Kumawat left Rajasthan with her family in search of a better life. In Dadheda, she found not just a new home, but the chance to build something of her own.

She began with a single ice cream cart and worked hard to grow it into a family business. But with young Ayush by her side all day, managing work was never easy. That changed when Ayush enrolled at CHETNA's Day Care Centre (DCC).

Knowing her son was safe, cared for, and learning well, Ganiben could finally focus on her business. One cart soon became three mobile ice cream units.

As the business grew, she brought her extended family from Rajasthan to join her. Today, they work together—making ice cream, managing sales, and building a steady livelihood.

CHETNA's Day Care Centre gave Ganiben more than childcare. It gave her the confidence and freedom to grow her dream while giving Ayush the care every child deserves. Ganiben's journey shows what is possible when mothers are supported.

When Hemaben and her family moved from Bihar to Dadheda village in Bharuch, Gujarat, they came with a dream shared by many migrant families - to build a better life through hard work.

Her husband, Vimleshbhai, had already been working in the village for a year when he discovered CHETNA's Day Care Centre (DCC). After visiting the centre, he decided to bring Hemaben to Dadheda, confident that their son, Atharv, would be cared for safely.

Reliable childcare opened new opportunities for the family.

Hemaben started her own footwear and clothing shop, while Vimleshbhai continued working as a driver. With him away for long hours, she managed the business independently and built a steady income.

On Sundays, the weekly market brings more customers, and the family works together to support the shop. What began as migration in search of work has become a story of stability, entrepreneurship and shared success.

CHETNA supports families like Hemaben's by helping parents work with peace of mind while their children receive quality care and early learning opportunities.

When children are cared for, parents can dream bigger and build stronger livelihoods.

For Pankaj Patel, being a father is about more than providing for his family—it is about being actively involved in his son’s growth and learning.

A supervisor at Sika Company in Jagadia, Gujarat, Pankaj works hard every day to support his family. Yet one of the most important parts of his day is when his son, Hetansh, returns home from CHETNA’s Day Care Centre (DCC).

Together, they talk about everything Hetansh learned during the day. The family’s connection with the Day Care Centre began when another parent in their neighbourhood shared a positive experience. Curious to learn more, Pankaj, along with his wife, Sonalben, visited the centre and was impressed by the
nurturing environment, learning opportunities, and care provided to children.

With Hetansh in a safe and supportive environment, Pankaj could focus on increasing his productivity at work, and Sonalben could return to tailoring without worrying about childcare.

CHETNA’s Day Care Centre has helped numerous families like Hetansh’s by creating stability and opportunity for the entire household.

Jyotiben Sandeepbhai Vasava was once a homemaker with a dream of working and supporting her family, but with young son Meet to care for, that dream had to wait.

Everything changed when CHETNA’s Day Care Centre (Ghodiya Ghar) opened inher village.

She began as a helper, learning to prepare nutritious meals, engage children in activities, and build her confidence. As her son thrived in the safe and nurturing Environment of the DCC, Jyotiben took a bold step forward and cleared the Gram
Rakshak Dal (GRD) examination.

Today, she serves proudly as a GRD personnel, contributes to her family’s income, and continues to aim higher. She has also cleared the physical test for police constable recruitment and is preparing for the written exam.

CHETNA is proud to support mothers like Jyotiben, giving them the confidence to pursue their dreams while knowing their children are in safe hands. Her son, Meet, now studies in Grade 1 and has benefited greatly from the care and learning at our Day Care Centre.

From homemaker to community protector, Jyotiben’s journey shows how supporting mothers helps entire families move forward.
