Last week, we hosted Prasanna Desai, Founder, Prasanna Desai Architects, for an insightful conversation titled “What Can Cities Learn from streets?”, organised in collaboration with Public Policy India.
This session brings clarity on how cities shape the way people actually live, move, and interact. Well-designed streets reveal the importance of walkability, safety, mixed uses, public spaces, and human-centred planning. Streets are often the best indicator of a city's health and livability.

At the Anant Fellowship in Sustainability and Built Environment (AFSBE), fellows embrace the idea that cities learn from their streets. By engaging directly with people and communities, they gain insights that shape human-centred and socially relevant solutions. This hands-on approach fosters empathy, critical thinking, and innovation while connecting learning with real-world impact.

On 9th May, we hosted Shipra Bhutada, Founder, Director, User Research at User Connect Consultancy(UCC),Hyderabad, for an insightful conversation titled “What Can Cities Learn from User Research?”, organised in collaboration with Public Policy India.
This session shed light on how cities work best when they are designed around real human behaviour rather than assumptions. By observing how people move, interact, and experience urban spaces, cities can identify hidden problems and improve everyday life.

At Anant Fellowship in Sustainability and Built Environment (AFSBE), fellows embrace the philosophy by approaching user research as a collaborative and exploratory process. By engaging directly with people and their environments, they uncover insights that help shape human-centred and socially relevant solutions. This experiential method of learning encourages critical thinking, empathy, and innovation, enabling fellows to create work that responds thoughtfully to both user needs and broader community contexts.

For those interested in careers related to urban development, environmental sustainability, and community-centred work, AFSBE offers a learning environment where user research and real-world engagement play a central role in connecting theory with meaningful, on-ground action.

Anant Fellowship’s Class of 2025 concluded with the Fellows presenting their final Live-Action Projects (LAPs). The projects were showcased in the presence of internal and external jurors, mentors, LAP clients, the Fellowship team, and other university stakeholders. This year, the cohort worked on seven unique projects:

Prakrishi: Focused on the Dangs and Navsari regions of Gujarat, this project explored the behavioral aspects that enable or hinder the adoption of natural farming.

Bridging Experiences: This project worked with parents, teachers, and principals in three municipal schools in Ahmedabad to understand the challenges and explore ways to foster stronger engagement.

Foodprint: The team collaborated with its client, Project Otenga, to integrate sustainability practices into its overall strategy and operations.

Apple Vibes: An entrepreneurial initiative, this project reimagines how underutilized and surplus apples can be transformed into nutritious, naturally sweet, and gluten-free value-added products. By combining locally sourced apples with other healthy ingredients, the team developed clean-label snacks that are both affordable and wholesome.

Adinav: Aimed at primary-level children (Grade 3, ages 8–10) of the Bhil tribe, this project developed pictorial educational materials in the local Bhili language and artistic style.

Ankahi Goonj: This project studied the housing conditions of migrant workers in the Vatva area of Ahmedabad, examining their vulnerabilities and mitigation strategies, use of space as well as expenditure on repairs and maintenance.

Samman: The team helped its client, India Recycles, to understand the needs of low-income communities and their attitudes towards pre-loved goods.
