Day 2 of the Craft Council of Gujarat’s Digital Training for Artisans concluded today.

Over the two days, artisans learned about markets, pricing, product selection, smartphone photography, catalogue creation, and the use of AI tools such as ChatGPT to write product descriptions, create content, and improve product images.

The sessions focused on helping artisans present their crafts more effectively for today’s markets while keeping the craft at the centre.

The training concluded with certificate distribution by the Craft Council of Gujarat, and it was wonderful to see the artisans leave with confidence, new skills, and enthusiasm to use these tools in their craft journeys.

Day 1 of our AI & Digital Training Workshop for Artisans.

The session focused on building a strong foundation for market readiness — understanding markets and buyers, learning the basics of pricing, and identifying products suitable for sale.

In the hands-on afternoon session, artisans explored smartphone photography for textiles, learning about lighting, backgrounds, and angles. They practiced capturing their products and began organising images into a simple catalogue.

A day of learning, experimenting, and building confidence.

Kapas the cotton of our land, our climate, and our civilisations.

Long before industrial cotton reshaped agriculture, India nurtured its own indigenous cotton varieties resilient, rain-fed, and deeply adapted to the soil and seasons of this land. Known as Desi Kapas, these native cotton plants require minimal water, resist pests naturally, and produce fibres that breathe with the tropical climate.

For centuries, this humble fibre travelled through the skilled hands of farmers, spinners, and weavers becoming fabrics that clothed cultures, built economies, and carried stories across generations.

Today, rediscovering indigenous kapas is not only about heritage; it is about sustainability, biodiversity, and restoring balance to the textile ecosystem.

KAPAS — A Living Inheritance, curated by the Crafts Council of Gujarat, celebrates the journey of cotton from seed to fibre, loom to living tradition.

A curated gathering of designers and artisans presenting cotton garments, saris, dupattas, stoles, and textiles, honouring the roots of this extraordinary fibre while imagining its future.

More than an exhibition, Kapas is a tribute to the ecosystem of cotton farmers, craft traditions, and contemporary design.
