Samait Shala, meaning "inclusive institution", was started in 2015 by four Teach for India 2014 fellows Kushal, Sai, Priyanka and Dipon as part of their "Be the Change Project" with Teach for India. We were all class teachers working in government and low income private schools in Ahmedabad, Gujarat when we saw the need to help children with diverse learning needs. Despite strong interventions, th
ere are many children who still aren't reaching their full potential in the classroom. This is often due to...
- Lack of proper care during the early age of the child due to which the child could not reach the developmental milestones.
- Lack of such knowledge and awareness about such development milestones in parents and teachers.
- Lack of appropriate training teachers to focus on one or two kids especially in a classroom of 35-40 kids. We work with -
- students to identify their different learning needs and create individual program for them.
- mainstream classroom teachers to help them with inclusive classroom practices with which they can help every child in their classroom
- parents on the learning needs of their child and how they can support in creating an inclusive learning environment. IN 2017-18, Samait Shala is working in 2 schools with over 360 children in and around Ahmedabad.
