Gramya Vikas Trust, An Initiative of GMDC Ltd. - Empowering Communities for Sustainable Future

Believing and practicing the culture of accountable governance, GMDC established Gramya Vikas Trust on 7th January 1991 as Public Trust with Section 12A and 80G, registered under The Income Tax Act, 1961 for various developmental activities. GMDC-Gramya Vikas Trust (GMDC-GVT) works with the vision to enhance the quality of life of communities living in the GMDC active regions through innovative partnerships/programs, strategic collaborations, and stakeholder engagement. The GMDC-GVT activities have extensive geographical coverage, and its functional area spans across villages in Bharuch, Bhavnagar, Chhotaudepur, Devbhumi Dwarka, Kutch, Panchmahals, and Surat districts. GMDC-GVT operates in a complex ecosystem to implement various social development projects under different thematic areas of the list prescribed under Schedule VII of The Companies Act, 2013. GMDC-GVT has developed, tested, and replicated innovative solutions to address longstanding social issues prevalent in the remote locations where GMDC is operational. Over the years, GMDC-GVT has been working on programs in Education, Healthcare, Drinking Water & Sanitation, Rural Development, and for improving the quality of life of surrounding communities.

The International Day of the Girl Child, observed on 11th October, highlights girls’ rights and the importance of advancing their education, health, safety, equality and empowerment.

GMDC-GVT reaffirms its commitment to this vision through initiatives across education, healthcare, skill development and livelihood enhancement. Through GMDC Atul Vidyalaya and DAV GMDC Public School, School Transportation Facilities, Jan Chikitsa Seva and GMDC–Samarthya, GMDC-GVT contributes to educational access, healthcare accessibility, employment-oriented skill development and women’s economic participation.

On this International Day of the Girl Child, we join the collective effort towards a more inclusive future.

World Teachers’ Day | 5th October

Every lesson taught today can shape the possibilities of tomorrow.

Teachers do more than impart knowledge.

They encourage curiosity, build confidence and help young minds discover their potential playing an important role in building stronger communities.

At GMDC-GVT, the commitment to education extends beyond the classroom.

Initiatives such as GMDC Atul Vidyalaya, in Kadipani and DAV GMDC Public School at Nani Chher, Lakhpat, Kutch, work to expand access to quality and inclusive education in underserved areas, enabling students from remote communities to attend school more regularly.

This World Teachers’ Day, we show our sincere gratitude to the teachers for guiding, inspiring and empowering the next generation.

Because when teachers help children learn, they help communities move forward.

Gandhi Jayanti | 2nd October International Day of Non-Violence

Service is not just an intention. It is action that reaches people.

For Mahatma Gandhi, Seva was closely rooted in constructive work for the well-being and dignity of communities. His approach recognised that meaningful social change is built through sustained efforts that respond to the diverse and evolving needs of people and communities.

GMDC-GVT practices Seva through seven pillars that contribute to enhancing the quality of life of the communities it serves by responding to their needs, creating opportunities, strengthening well-being, preserving heritage and contributing to a more sustainable future.

International Day of Older Persons | 1st October

A community is truly inclusive when it makes space for every generation.

Elders hold a valued place in Indian society, carrying with them wisdom, experience and contributions that enrich generations. Recognising their well-being also means ensuring that essential healthcare is within reach.

Through GMDC–Jan Chikitsa Seva, GMDC-GVT operates Mobile Medical Units (MMUs), mobile healthcare facilities that travel to remote and underserved villages, bringing preventive and curative healthcare services directly to the communities they serve. This supports people, including elderly residents, in accessing medical consultations, treatment and other essential healthcare services closer to home.

This International Day of Older Persons, we recognise the importance of building communities where care, dignity and inclusion remain accessible at every stage of life.

Healthcare becomes more meaningful when it reaches people where they need it the most.

Rameshbhai (name changed), a 26-year-old from Bhavnagar district, had been living with paralysis for three years when he developed a persistent bedsore.

Through GMDC-GVT’s Mobile Medical Unit under Jan Chikitsa Seva, he received prescribed treatment and regular wound care at home. With continued care and attention, his condition showed encouraging improvement at a recent follow-up.

Through Jan Chikitsa Seva, GMDC-GVT’s Mobile Medical Units help bring preventive and curative healthcare services to remote and underserved communities, making essential healthcare more accessible.

Every visit, every treatment and every follow-up is a step towards healthier communities.

🌍 World Tourism Day | 27th September

Tourism has the power to bridge cultures, support communities, and enrich the way we experience the world.

Through initiatives such as the Shree Shyamji Krishna Varma Memorial (SKVM) – Kranti Teerth in Mandvi, Kutch, GMDC-GVT contributes to preserving and bringing alive the region’s rich historical heritage. The memorial offers visitors an opportunity to discover the life and legacy of Shyamji Krishna Varma and engage with an important chapter of India’s freedom movement.

Healthy communities begin with a healthy environment. 🌱

On World Environmental Health Day, GMDC-GVT recognises the role of environmental action in building healthier communities.

In Ahmedabad, GMDC-GVT, in association with Gujarat Rajya Gram Vikas Samiti, has commenced planting 5,000 trees under Hariyali Lok Sabha, using the Miyawaki method and native species to restore ecosystems and support biodiversity.

In Kutch, under the Pranvayu Vruksh Abhiyan, 2,500 trees have been planted across 28 km in collaboration with Sadbhavana Vrudhashram Trust and Kutch Jaldhara Sangh, contributing to ecosystem restoration and strengthening biodiversity in mining-affected areas.

Today, we reaffirm the importance of nurturing nature, and creating a healthier tomorrow.

For Anitaben (name changed) and Purnimaben (name changed), recovery began with access to the right medical care.

Following a bull-related accident, Anitaben from Kadipani received care for a painful hand injury through GMDC-GVT’s Jan Chikitsa Seva Mobile Medical Unit.

The medical team provided
wound treatment and continued attention to her condition.

In Tadkeshwar, 64-year-old Purnimaben received treatment for an accident-related leg injury.

Her care through the MMU included wound management and regular follow-up to support her
recovery.

The Jan Chikitsa Seva Mobile Medical Unit provides support by bringing medical services closer to communities, enabling patients to receive not only immediate attention but also
continued care as they recover.

With regular follow-ups, both women showed encouraging improvement.
Because healthcare is more meaningful when it reaches people where they are and continues when they need it.

Safe Care for Life.

World Patient Safety Day is a global call to reduce avoidable harm in healthcare. This year's theme, "Safe care for noncommunicable diseases," focuses on conditions like heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and chronic respiratory illness, which need safe, continuous care over a lifetime.

Through its Jan Chikitsa Seva Mobile Medical Units, and GMDC Hospitals in LTPS and Kadipani, GMDC-GVT contributes by bringing timely check-ups, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing medical support closer to communities, so that safe, reliable care reaches people wherever they are.
