My Dear Readers
📢 Announcement: UPCACR Blog as a Common Archive 📢

We are excited to introduce https://upcacr.wordpress.com as the official archive of Uttar-Purbanchal Centre for Art & Cultural Research (UPCACR)!

Originally created in 2019 by Nilkanta Das (Secretary, UPCACR) as a platform for bilingual writing on the art and culture of Tripura, Northeast India, and broadly Eastern Indian art history, this blog has now evolved into a shared space for researchers, scholars, and art enthusiasts.

With UPCACR as an alternative center for Visual Art & Cultural Studies, we invite scholars, writers, and researchers to contribute—whether through reviews, articles, queries, or collaborations.

Join us in building this archive by sharing your insights! Let’s create a meaningful discourse on art and culture together.

Archival Documentation: Esh*ta Das and Her Exhibition "Blooming Flowers"

Esh*ta Das: A Young Emerging Artist from Tripura

Esh*ta Das (b. 2010, Badharghat, Tripura) is a young and promising student of Shankaracharya Vidyayatan HS Girls School, Agartala, currently enrolled in Class IX. With a deep-seated interest in visual arts, she has demonstrated remarkable dedication to both painting and photography.

Recently, Esh*ta Das exhibited her works at Chhaya Studio & Caffe, Agartala, in collaboration with the Uttar Purbanchan Centre for Art & Cultural Research (UPCACR). The exhibition, titled "Blooming Flowers", took place from 5th February to 10th February 2025 and featured a compelling collection of street photography from Agartala.

The exhibition showcased a total of 25 artworks, comprising 8 paintings and 17 photographs. The central themes explored in her works include the vibrant dynamics of local fish markets, street vendors, and traditional idol craftsmanship of Agartala. While her journey as a painter remains in the early stages, Esh*ta exhibits great promise in her artistic evolution. In the domain of photography, she has already demonstrated a strong sense of subject selection, composition, and narrative, which are crucial elements in visual storytelling. With further exploration and refinement, her practice is expected to evolve towards a more diverse and nuanced engagement with photography and other artistic disciplines.

Apart from her artistic pursuits, Esh*ta is also engaged in entrepreneurial activities to support her own expenses. She has collaborated with Kraftdesi, a brand specializing in handcrafted artifacts, and has also initiated a startup focused on safety pin jewelry, under the Instagram handle bawli.you

UPCACR continues to foster an inclusive and interdisciplinary space for emerging artists, researchers, and cultural practitioners. We welcome artists from across the state and beyond to collaborate and contribute towards building an alternative platform for art and cultural research in Northeast India. Esh*ta Das' exhibition "Blooming Flowers" serves as an exemplary model of our commitment to nurturing young talent and encouraging contemporary engagements with living traditions.
