Seeing the recovery of Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak is deeply moving.
The dedication of local residents, together with the thoughtful work of Regrow IL, shows what real, long-term rebuilding looks like.
Those who feel connected to this spirit of resilience are welcome to take part through the Kibbutz Volunteers Program joining kibbutz communities and everyday life.

Volunteer Spotlight ✨

Meet Tim from Germany, currently volunteering in Kibbutz Nir Oz - a community still recovering from the October 7th attack.

Even while the kibbutz remains in the process of rebuilding, volunteers continue to arrive to stand in solidarity and help however they can.

This is why Tim chose to come to Nir Oz:
Why did I come to Nir Oz?

As a leftist, I dream of a free society in which everyone can be different without fear or coercion. Solidarity with the victims of anti-Semitism and Islamism is a matter of course for me. The one-sided, passionate opposition to Israel by some on the left in Europe is, for me, a profound betrayal of left-wing values.

I came on the first trip with the association Solidarity Bergisch Gladbach Nir Oz, and as a truck mechanic, I was able to put my skills to good use in the tractor workshop. Furthermore, I am very happy to have found people in the kibbutz and among the members of Hashomer Hatzair with whom I share my emancipatory critique of the existing conditions.

Those who know… know.

For everyone else, this may just look like a quiet little path between palm trees.
But those who lived the kibbutz volunteer life know exactly what this is - the path leading to the heart of the kibbutz. ❤️

Morning coffees, lunch breaks, late-night walks, meeting friends on the way...
So many memories started right here.

Can you guess which kibbutz this is? 😏👇

After a little quiet on our feed, we're happy to bring back our Volunteer Spotlight series - sharing the stories of the incredible people who choose to make Israel part of their journey.

Today, meet Anett from Hungary, whose connection to Israel brought her back once again - this time for a longer and deeply meaningful experience at Kibbutz Ein Gev. 🇭🇺💙

Hi, I'm Anett from Hungary. I have been volunteering in Israel several times for a few weeks, but this time I really wanted to stay longer. That's how I found this kibbutz volunteering program which is ideal, if you want to came for a longer period.
In Ein Gev I'm working at the kindergarten, looking after babies, that I feel very fulfilling. Here I can speak in English but it's also a good way to learn and practice Hebrew. Moreover it's not just for improving language skills, but to earn a lot of useful skills in child care from my supportive, and professional team I am working with.
The area has such a beautiful environment, with rich history that still continues in our days, so it's a great pleasure to learn and take part in it.

One tourist. One story.

While most visitors left Israel after the recent escalation, one Dutch traveler chose to stay by the Sea of Galilee - simply because of his love for Israel and its people.

Below is an English translation of a story recently published in Ynet about the man who might currently be the last tourist in the Kinneret area.

“The Last Dutch Tourist at the Sea of Galilee”

At Kibbutz Ein-Gev holiday village on the Sea of Galilee, there is currently only one tourist: Eddy Boevink, a 60-year-old visitor from the Netherlands. He arrived in Israel with a group of Christian pilgrims shortly before the latest round of fighting began.

When the war broke out, most of the group panicked and quickly returned home. Eddy even drove some of them to Jerusalem so they could leave the country. However, he chose to stay.

According to the resort’s marketing manager, almost all foreign tourists have left the Sea of Galilee area, and hotels that were expected to be nearly full with pilgrims are now almost completely empty. She believes Eddy may currently be the only tourist in the entire Sea of Galilee region.

Eddy has visited Israel 14 times, including nine times since the October 2023 massacre. He says people call him brave, but he rejects that description:

“People call me brave, but I’m afraid to be brave. I just love Israel and the Israelis. My heart is here.”

His family in the Netherlands was worried but supports his decision. He says he plans to keep visiting Israel in the future and will leave only once he manages to book a flight home.

We’d love to hear your story too – share your experiences in Israel, especially during challenging times.

It’s back…
Can you guess which kibbutz this photo was taken in?
Here’s a glimpse of the dining room - the heart of every day, where volunteers gather for meals, laughter, and stories from all corners of the world.
Among the tables, the sunlight, and the chatter, friendships are made and memories are created.
Do you remember your first meal on a kibbutz?
Share your guesses and your memories in the comments – and feel free to post a photo of yourself in a kibbutz dining hall that we can share in the future with your permission!

A Heartwarming Visit to Nir Oz 🌿

Last Sunday, a group of 30 volunteers from Germany, organized by Ot HaKfarah VeHaShalom and active in the Israel-Germany friendship associations, visited Kibbutz Nir Oz. During their visit, they met with our International Volunteer Program director, Keren Pardo, and learned firsthand about the community’s journey through resilience, rebuilding, and hope.

We are always delighted when such delegations visit Israel. Their commitment to strengthening the bonds with Israel is inspiring, and their support shows the real impact of international friendship.

Read more about their visit and reflections here in the first comment.

We invite you to read, share, and celebrate these meaningful connections!

The Religious Kibbutz Council decided, by a large majority of 90% of council members, to join a unified framework with the Kibbutz Movement.

The secretary, Sara Avron, said at the Movement Council in Be’erot Yitzhak: “Polarization and extremism dominate every possible platform. Now is the time to look outward, to our partners, and to forge a covenant of destiny.”

The Secretary-General of the Kibbutz Movement, Lior Simcha, attended the council and stated: “In Israeli society, we must show respect for one another. If we demand mutual responsibility and equality from ourselves, it is clear that first and foremost, we must implement it among ourselves.”

During the council meeting, voices were raised expressing both concern and hope for deeper connection. “In the end, only 700 meters separate us. That’s a fact of life. Our lifestyles are different, we don’t agree on everything, but we are partners. And here there is a call to Israeli society to seek more partnership.”
