Friends of NATAL

Friends of NATAL Established in 1998, NATAL aims to strengthen the resiliency of Israeli society.

NATAL โ€“ Israel Trauma and Resiliency Center is an apolitical non-profit organization that treats and supports victims of psychological trauma due to terror and war. Israel Trauma Center for Victims of Terror and War

After an act of terror or war the damage is clearly visible โ€“ people are injured, buildings are destroyed. However the psychological wounds inflicted on those who have suffered from t

rauma are often harder to see. Our mission is to bring people back to life and back to hope after experiencing trauma as a result of war or terror:

Whether they have been directly or indirectly affected:
- Families living in Israel's conflict zones who have suffered missile attacks on their schools and houses
- Released combat soldiers with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
- The wives of soldiers with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

This week, NATAL had the privilege of being hosted by the Swiss Ambassador to Israel, Simon Geissbรผhler, for a diplomatic breakfast briefing joined by ambassadors and representatives from seven embassies.

Our CEO, opened the gathering by sharing NATALโ€™s mission and the scope of our work: clinical services, our 24/7 helpline, training programs, and research, and how all of it has intensified since October 7.

Our Director of Research, , then brought a question that rarely makes it into diplomatic conversations: What is the true cost of national crises?

The answer reaches far beyond the individual. Trauma spills into workplaces, schools, family systems, and national economies, and the indirect costs often dwarf the direct ones. NATALโ€™s research puts numbers to what many already sense but struggle to quantify.

What makes NATALโ€™s position distinctive is the combination of direct connection to the field, longitudinal data from thousands of people, and nearly three decades of developing evidence based models and protocols.
Through NATAL Global and our international partnerships, we work to ensure that what we learn here can strengthen resilience wherever it is needed.

Grateful to the Swiss Ambassador for creating this space, and to each representative present for their openness and engagement ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

What an incredible experience at the Network of Jewish Human Service Agencies (NJHSA) PowerNet Annual Conference in Toronto last week! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป

NJHSA - the umbrella organization of nearly 180 Jewish human service agencies serving Jewish communities across North America - brought together leaders, practitioners, and changemakers for one of the most meaningful professional gatherings of the year.

During the conference, our team, represented by Maayan Aviv, American Friends of NATALโ€™s CEO, Hila Shvoron, Sharon Yeheskel-Oron and Esther Heller:
โœ… Presented our Trauma-Informed Career Development Model
โœ… Facilitated a workshop on Resilience-Oriented Leadership for organizational executives
โœ… Accepted, on behalf of Mrs. Jude Yovel Recanati, our Founding President, the Lay Leadership Award of Excellence - in recognition of her extraordinary dedication and contribution to Israeli society

But perhaps the most powerful takeaway was this: though we live in very different contexts - different countries, different realities, different day-to-day challenges - these troubling times have reminded us how deeply connected we are. The pain is shared. So is the resilience.

We came with our expertise in trauma and recovery. We left with new perspectives, new tools, and a renewed sense that cross-community learning is not just valuable - itโ€™s essential. There is so much we can teach each other, and so much more we can accomplish together.

Thankful for every conversation, every workshop, and every moment of genuine human connection. ๐Ÿค๐ŸŒ

Independence day 2026 ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ

When NATAL was founded 28 years ago,
we could not have imagined
how deeply it would become
an integral part of the human fabric
and resilience of Israeli society.

Over the years, we have grown together
as an organization that supports,
and develops treatment
And tools for those coping with trauma,
helping them not only live alongside it,
but also grow from it.

Because growth is not always loud.
Sometimes it is quiet, internal.
Sometimes it is simply the ability
to wake up in the morning,
to breathe, and return to daily life.

This Independence Day,
we want to remind all you -
true independence begins within,
in the ability to grow through crisis
and not let the past define the future.

We wish for our country,
and for all of us,
a time of calm and peace.
May we continue to be there for one another,
and for those in need of support,
because our true strength lies in the strength
of every link in the chain ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป

You donโ€™t have to go through this alone.
We are here for you.

Today, we remember ๐Ÿฅ€๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ
The fallen soldiers. The victims of terror.
We embrace their loved ones, who remember every day.

At NATAL, we support those who carry the weight of memory and trauma
and just as importantly, we care for their families, friends, and communities.
Because healing from trauma takes more than one person
it takes a resilient circle of support.

Together, we remember.
Together, we heal.

There are dates that donโ€™t just stay on a calendar.
They stay in the body.

Years may pass,
but sometimes
a small sound,
a scent,
or even a long silence
is enough to bring back all of the memories.

If these memories continue to keep you up at night,
the traumatic feeling hasnโ€™t simply โ€œgone away.โ€
And itโ€™s not something you have to face alone.

These reactions are not a sign of weakness. They are the mindโ€™s way of trying to process
what has not yet healed.

At NATAL, we are here for you
with professional, sensitive, and personalized
mental health support,
and a wide range of services for coping with trauma related to war and terror.
