A significant milestone in the IDF: For the first time, a female combat soldier has successfully completed the dedicated training track for Sayeret Matkal and been accepted into the elite unit.

Sayeret Matkal is one of the IDF’s most elite special forces units, known for intelligence-gathering, counterterrorism, and complex operations deep behind enemy lines.

The achievement is part of a pilot program to integrate women into combat and special forces units, which began in December 2024. After passing a preliminary selection process and meeting all the required criteria, the soldier completed a training track that lasted more than a year and a half.

WIZO congratulates the IDF on another meaningful moment in the ongoing effort to expand opportunities for meaningful service for women in combat roles, and on a milestone of historic importance within Israel’s defense establishment. 🇮🇱💪🏻

🥈 Israel Vice Champion — One of Our Own! 🥈

The competition took place in Ra’anana, where Carmel competed in the 2011 age category (up to 50 kg) and delivered an incredible performance to secure the title of Israel’s Vice Champion.

Carmel’s achievement is a true reflection of hard work, determination, and perseverance and we couldn’t be prouder.

Congratulations as well to the dedicated coaching staff and educational team who support and guide our students every step of the way. 💚

Carmel, we are incredibly proud of you and can’t wait to see you conquer your next peak! 👑🔥

On June 1–2, 1941, during Shavuot, a violent pogrom erupted against the Jewish community of Baghdad.

Known as the Farhud, the attacks left around 150 to 180 Jews murdered, hundreds wounded, and an ancient community forever changed.

For Iraqi Jewry, whose roots in Babylon stretched back more than 2,500 years, the Farhud marked a devastating turning point.

Today, we remember the victims, honor the resilience of Iraqi Jews, and carry their stories forward.

May their memory never be forgotten. 🕯️✡️

Students from WIZO Nahalal, WIZO Nir HaEmek, and WIZO Hadassim take part in Bartali Youth in Movement, an educational cycling program that helps young people discover what they are capable of, together.

At the recent 20 km ride in Ben Shemen, Taisia and Anna Maria from WIZO Nahalal joined fellow riders for a meaningful challenge that reflected a year of training, teamwork, and growth.

“The ride is the visible part,” says Ran Margaliot, CEO of Bartali Youth in Movement. “What matters most is what happens inside the group.”

Proud of our WIZO riders, going the distance together 🚴‍♀️💚

The UN’s decision to place Israel on a blacklist alongside Hamas is outrageous, dangerous, and morally indefensible.

Hamas terrorists used r**e, sexual violence, torture, humiliation, kidnapping, and brutality as weapons on October 7 and against hostages in Gaza. To place Israel in the same category as those responsible for these atrocities is not only a distortion of reality — it is a betrayal of the victims and their loved ones.

Since October 7, evidence and testimonies of these crimes have been shared with the public, with the UN, and with women’s rights organizations around the world. Too much of it has been ignored, minimized, or silenced.

Once again, the UN has chosen political pressure over moral clarity.

When Israeli women were r**ed, when children were murdered and kidnapped, when families were tortured and burned, the world’s so-called human rights institutions did not respond with the outrage their mandates demand.

There can be no equivalence between a democratic state defending its people and a terrorist organization that massacred, r**ed, kidnapped, and brutalized civilians.

Shame on the UN — and on all those who have demonized the victims instead of standing with them.

35 years since Operation Solomon

In May 1991, more than 14,300 Ethiopian Jews were airlifted from Addis Ababa to Israel in just 36 hours.

For Beta Israel, it was the fulfillment of a generations-long dream: to return to Jerusalem.

Today, we honor the courage, faith, and resilience of Ethiopian Jewry and remember Operation Solomon as one of the most moving chapters in modern Jewish history.

WIZO was proud to play a small part in the journey that followed, supporting Ethiopian immigrants as they began building their lives in Israel.
