25.02.2015 while flaying at a low altitude over the Sea of Galilee at a speed of 1000km/h the F16I "storm" jet was hit by a herring gull (Larus ridibundus), which entered the cockpit of the aircraft with great force. Luckily, the pilot and the navigator were able to land safe and sound in Ramat David. Over 3 decades, 11 jets crashed, 3 pilots were killed and 75 accidents happened due to bird strikes (damage is over 1million $ each). TAU department of Zoology, alongside the Air Force and the Society of Protection of Nature, reduced the accidents up to 76%
