Tel Avivโ€“Yafo Mayor Ron Huldai, who also serves as Chairman of the Tel Aviv Foundation, presented today (Tuesday) the โ€œKey to the Cityโ€ to American actress Debra Messing - an honorary distinction awarded by the Mayor in recognition of individualsโ€™ contributions - as a token of appreciation for her advocacy on behalf of Israel since October 7th.

Messing, star of the series โ€œWill & Grace,โ€ is visiting Israel as a guest of the Tel Aviv LGBTQ+ Film Festival. Huldai praised her for her courage and support of the LGBTQ+ community.

Thirty years have passed since that tragic night when the voice of a leader who dared to dream of peace was silenced.

Yitzhak Rabin believed with courage and conviction that peace is not only a political goal, but a daily choice of hope, empathy, and humanity.

He believed in a future where children grow up without fear, where disagreement does not lead to hatred, and where love triumphs over violence.

Today, as our society faces pain, division, and uncertainty once again, we remember his words:

โ€œViolence erodes the very foundation of democracy. It must be condemned, denounced, and isolated.โ€

Thirty years later - the responsibility is ours.
To keep the hope alive.
To choose dialogue.
To believe in peace.

Yesterday, our hearts overflowed with profound relief and joy as we welcomed home 20 hostages who finally returned to their familiesโ€™ embrace. After too long apart, these reunions remind us of what matters most โ€“ the precious gift of being together again.
We are deeply grateful to the United States for their crucial role in brokering the ceasefire agreement that made these homecomings possible. This diplomatic achievement brings us hope after two incredibly difficult years of war.
All living hostages have now returned home. Yet our sacred duty remains: we will continue our efforts until every last fallen hostage is brought home for proper burial. Their families deserve closure, and we will not rest until they receive it. No one will be forgotten. No one will be left behind.
As we witness these emotional reunions, we allow ourselves to hope. Hope that this ceasefire will hold and bring lasting peace. Hope that healing can finally begin for our wounded society. Hope that from this pain, we will emerge stronger, more united, and more compassionate toward one another.
The long night of war is ending. Together, we look toward a brighter dawn โ€“ one of peace, unity, and renewed strength.
Am Yisrael Chai. ๐Ÿ’™

At the initiative of Revital Ben-Asher Peretz, Mayor Ron Huldaiโ€™s advisor for arts and culture, an art exhibition was established in Frankfurt โ€“ Tel Aviv-Yafoโ€™s sister city for the past 45 years. Roytal recognized the need to create a municipal cultural delegation following the events of October 7th.

The Tel Aviv Foundation embraced the initiative and became a partner in establishing the exhibition. The Foundationโ€™s connection with Frankfurt is a deep cultural and values-based relationship, and Frankfurtโ€™s Mayor, Mike Josef, also serves as Chairman of the Tel Aviv Foundation in Germany. Josef visited Tel Aviv immediately after October 7th, and since then, Tel Avivโ€™s flag has been flying over Frankfurtโ€™s city hall as a symbol of unity between the two cities.

On September 4th, the exhibitionโ€™s opening event took place at the public Heussenstamm Gallery โ€“ Raum fรผr Kunst und Stadt, in the presence of Mayor Mike Josef, city council members, and members of the Jewish community.

The exhibition โ€œWill There Ever Be Days?โ€ runs throughout September and features works by Israeli and German artists: Ayelet Carmi, Merav Heiman, Nurit Yarden, Dina Shenhav, Nivi Alroy, Karim Abu Shakra Hametz, Ilana Salama Ortar, Barak Reiser, and Peter Loewy. The exhibition was curated by Carmit Blumensohn.

The project is made possible through collaboration between Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality, Frankfurt Municipality, the Tel Aviv Foundation, WIZO and the Heussenstamm Gallery.

Tel Aviv-Yafo Stands Still โ€“ For the Hostages

The Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality and the Tel Aviv Foundation are joining the call of the hostage families in their fight for freedom โ€“ we will strike tomorrow, Sunday, August 17.

Nearly 700 days have passed. Fifty hostages remain in Hamas captivity under inhumane conditions. We all witnessed the horrific images of Eviatar David and Rom Breslavsky, enduring unbearable suffering โ€“ and in our hearts, we made a vow: we will not stay silent and we will not give up.

This is our crucial moment. We call on Tel Aviv residents and all municipal employees to join this outcry. Gather at Hostages Square starting Saturday night, August 16 at 8:00 PM, and demand together: bring them home now.

On Sunday, Tel Aviv-Yafo will participate in the nationwide strike โ€“ standing in solidarity with the hostage families with one clear, urgent message: bring them back. Because silence kills. Because only the people will bring the hostages home. Because mutual responsibility isnโ€™t just a slogan โ€“ it is the foundation of our existence.

โœŠ They are there โ€“ we are in the square.
