Spark IL- Micro lending, Macro Impact for Israel

Spark IL- Micro lending, Macro Impact for Israel SparkIL is a new and innovative peer-to-peer lending platform that connects social lenders with borrowers on the periphery of Israel.

Together, we are working to build connections and improve the lives of people in Israel.

Another morning. Another reality shift.

For weeks, businesses in northern Israel have been operating under the constant threat of sirens, uncertainty, and changing plans. Now, as attacks from Iran resume and new Home Front Command restrictions take effect, small business owners across the country are adapting again.

Schools and daycare centers are closed. Parents are staying home with children. Meetings are being postponed. Businesses are trying to keep serving customers while making difficult decisions in real time.

This is the reality of running a business in Israel.

At SparkIL, we meet the people behind these businesses every day. We see their courage, creativity, and commitment to keep going, even when life is far from normal.

🇮🇱Today, we stand with Israel’s small business owners and entrepreneurs. Their resilience strengthens families, communities, and Israel’s future.

🩷Wishing safety, strength, and quieter days ahead for everyone.

Meet Oz Tanami in Rishon LeZion.

For his Bar Mitzvah project, Oz wanted his milestone to be about helping others. Through SparkIL, he found a personal way to stand with real entrepreneurs and help small Israeli businesses through interest-free loans.

Oz’s story captures his heart, his family’s pride and the meaningful connection that happens when one young person chooses to turn values into action.

He is one of several Bnei Mitzvah youth using SparkIL to connect with Israeli entrepreneurs in a personal and meaningful way.

🩷 Stay tuned for Oz’s full story.

Thank you to Oz and Molly Livingston for sharing this story with us.

In Israel, 99.5% of businesses are small or medium-sized. Over 500,000 families and individuals took a beautiful risk, bet on themselves, and built something meaningful from the ground up.

But the past two and a half years have tested these decisions in ways no one could have planned - through long months of reserve duty, regional disruptions, and extended economic slowdowns. While some business owners had to pause and return, others unfortunately could not reopen.

As we welcome June, our hearts remain completely with the North. In the Golan Heights and surrounding northern communities, entrepreneurs continue to open their doors despite the profound uncertainty surrounding daily life.

Take Jenny, for example. She poured her heart into creating a serene, ecological hospitality suite in the Golan Heights - a peaceful sanctuary meant for recharging and connection. Today, while tourism in her region faces immense hardships due to the ongoing war, Jenny’s resilient spirit remains unbroken. By standing with entrepreneurs like Jenny, we ensure they don't have to weather this storm alone.

Swipe to see the numbers behind the story and the story behind the numbers.

Israel didn't have a proper barefoot shoe shop. Lotem fixed that.

He spent years in uniform, got hurt, spent more time in uniform, and came home with a very specific obsession.

How people move. Why so many people are in unnecessary pain. And why Israelis had to order shoes from abroad with zero guidance and just hope for the best.

His shop in Modi'in is changing that. Barefoot footwear, fitted properly, with actual professional guidance.

Athletes come in. Parents come in. People who've been in pain for years come in.

Every single one of them leaves a bit better.

Lotem turned his own recovery into something his whole community benefits from. That's worth supporting.

Some heroes wear capes. Other heroes are furry and wear a leash.

Meet Chen Schneider from Be'er Sheva. Founder of The Soul Dog, a therapeutic practice built around something anyone who's ever ugly-cried into their dog's fur already knows.

Dogs just get it.

For years, Chen has brought therapy dogs into schools, rehab centers, youth hostels, and communities across the south of Israel. Supporting kids and adults emotionally regulate, reconnect and heal.

Now he is ready for the next chapter. A mobile therapeutic clinic. A customized caravan that travels directly to the communities that need him most, bringing sessions, workshops, and real emotional support on the road.

The smell of kubbeh soup can make a grown man cry.

Lior knows this. That's why he built Alma Restaurant.

He grew up watching his grandmother cook Iraqi and Kurdish dishes the way she always had. With time and with care.

Lior is a reservist who came back. And when he did, he came back to his pots.

Now he serves those same flavors to people who haven't tasted them since childhood and to younger generations discovering them for the first time.

He calls it "the taste of once." The food that lives in your memory before your tongue can even place it.

For Lior, food is gemilut hasadim. A way to honor the families and communities who carried these recipes across borders and generations. His greatest pride is making sure those stories stay here, in Israel, on the table, in every bite.

Some Mother’s Day stories are not wrapped in ribbon.

They live in the woman who knows what postpartum loneliness feels like and builds a place so others do not have to feel it alone.

They live in the mother who understands the need for a secure base and creates tools to help therapists support more families.

They live in the entrepreneur who believes care can be found in a quiet room, a slower moment, and the chance to breathe again.

Aviv, Esther Zahava, and Ofira are building more than businesses. They are building places of care in Israel.

This Mother’s Day, meet the women behind the stories and choose a woman-led business to support through SparkIL: https://www.sparkil.org/lend/?filter_social-impact=women-led

We’re heading to Denver for Celebrate Israel.

This year’s theme, Lev Echad, one shared heart, brings together many voices and many places, here, there, and everywhere. It’s a powerful reflection of what community looks like in action.

Celebrate Israel is Colorado’s largest festival dedicated to the people, culture, and state of Israel, gathering Jewish communities and allies for a day of music, food, and connection.

Our U.S. Partnerships and Outreach Manager, Audrey Bloomberg, will be there, rain or shine.

Audrey works closely with educators, synagogues, and Jewish organizations to help bring Israel to life through real stories and meaningful experiences.

Her work focuses on helping the next generation build a personal connection to Israel through real people and meaningful experiences.

If you’re attending, come say hello or send Audrey a message to connect: [email protected]
