The body of Col. Asaf Hamami has been brought home to Israel after being held hostage for 758 days.

Asaf, 41, from Kiryat Ono, the commander of the Gaza Division’s Southern Brigade, was killed fighting Hamas terrorists in Kibbutz Nirim on October 7, during the terror group’s onslaught on southern Israel.

On that morning, as Hamas launched its assault, Hamami was spending Shabbat at the Gaza Division base near the border with his 5-year-old son, Alon. Hamami handed his son to other soldiers to take him to a safe place and set out to battle the terrorists.

Asaf is survived by his wife Saphir and their three children, Arbel, Alon and Ella.

The IDF Widows & Orphans Organization (IDFWO) bows its head in sorrow and shares in the profound grief of the Hamami family. We remain in eternal debt to his wife Saphir and his three children for the sacrifice Asaf made in defense of our homeland.

At this difficult time, the IDFWO reaffirms its unwavering support for Yaffa Rudaeff, the one remaining IDF widow still waiting for the return of her husband Lior’s remains - and for the seven other families still painfully awaiting the return of their loved ones, so they may finally be laid to rest, at home.

One new widow. Five new orphans.
Master Sgt. (Res.) Yona Efraim “Efi” Feldbaum, 37, was killed in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday by Hamas sniper fire. A devoted husband and father of five. A defender and hero of Israel.

The war is not over. Its cost is still counted in the lives of those left behind.

We stand with his wife and children – and with every widow and orphan carrying this burden.

353 widows
890 orphans
since October 7, 2023

They are our priority. We owe them.

The body of Tamir Adar has been brought home to Israel after being held hostage for 746 days.

Tamir, 38, was killed while fighting against the Hamas invasion of Kibbutz Nir Oz on October 7, and his body was abducted into Gaza.

On the morning of October 7, Tamir set out to support the kibbutz’s local security team when news of the invasion began to arrive. He told his wife and children to stay locked in their reinforced room.

Tamir is survived by his wife, Hadas, and his two children, Asaf, 7, and Neta, 3.

A notice from the kibbutz announcing his death noted that he was a “family man, who loved nature and people. He was a devoted fan of Maccabi Tel Aviv and was always surrounded by friends.”

The IDF Widows & Orphans Organization (IDFWO) bows its head in sorrow and shares in the profound grief of the Adar family. We remain in eternal debt to his wife Hadas and his two children for the sacrifice Tamir made in defense of our homeland.

At this difficult time, the IDFWO reaffirms its unwavering support for the two remaining IDF widows still waiting for the return of their husbands’ remains - and for all other families still painfully awaiting the return of their loved ones, so they may finally be laid to rest, at home. 🇮🇱

The body of Tal Haimi has been brought home to Israel after being held hostage for 745 days.

Tal, 41, from Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak, was killed while defending the kibbutz on October 7 and his body taken captive to Gaza.

With the start of the attack that Saturday morning, Tal told his wife, Ela, to stay in their shelter room as he set out to attempt to thwart the Hamas invasion.

He and other members of the rapid response team battled the invading terrorists at the entrance to the kibbutz until he was shot dead.

Tal is survived by his wife, Ela, and their four children, Nir, Einav and Udi. In May 2024, his youngest son, Lotan, was born, seven months after he was killed.

The IDF Widows & Orphans Organization (IDFWO) bows its head in sorrow and shares in the profound grief of the Haimi family. We remain in eternal debt to his wife Ela and his four children for the sacrifice Tal made in defense of our homeland.

At this difficult time, the IDFWO reaffirms its unwavering support for the three remaining IDF widows still waiting for the return of their husbands’ remains - and for all other families still painfully awaiting the return of their loved ones, so they may finally be laid to rest, at home.

The body of Sgt. Maj. Muhammad el-Atrash has been brought home to Israel after being held hostage for 740 days.

Sgt. Maj. el-Atrash, 39, from Sa’wa in the Negev, served in the IDF Gaza Division’s Northern Brigade and was killed on October 7 following a battle with terrorists near Kibbutz Nahal Oz.

Muhammad is survived by his two wives, Amna and Ktimal, and 13 children — ranging in age from 18 to just one month old at the time of his death.

A career soldier, he first enlisted in the IDF in November 2003, serving as a tracker — a role traditionally and almost exclusively filled by Bedouin Israelis. Muhammad was deeply devoted to his family and had a lifelong love of horses.

The IDF Widows & Orphans Organization (IDFWO) bows its head in sorrow and shares in the profound grief of the el-Atrash family.
We remain in eternal debt to his wives and children for the sacrifice Muhammad made in defense of our homeland.

At this difficult time, the IDFWO reaffirms its unwavering support for the four remaining IDF widows still waiting for the return of their husbands’ remains — and for all other families still painfully awaiting the return of their loved ones, so they may finally be laid to rest, at home.

👶 Mazaltov!!! Three months ago, Hadas Levy gave birth to a beautiful baby boy who looks just like his father. However, his father, Natanel Silberg, fell in battle 19 months ago. Hadas is the very first IDF widow to give birth after posthumous s***m retrieval and In Vitro Fertilization.

The Widows & Orphans Organization has been by her side throughout her pregnancy and will continue to be there for them both -forever.

In light of Hadas Levy’s trailblazing journey, and with interest from others, the IDF Widows and Orphans Organization (IDFWO) created a new program to support these women through the emotional, medical, legal, and financial costs associated with the process.

Like Hadas, once pregnant, we assign each of them two personal midwives to attend to their every need and offer postpartum support, including night nurses.

Sgt. Maj. (res.) Betzalel Yehoshua Mosbacher, 32
Husband to a young wife. Father to a 2-year-old daughter. Son. Brother. Friend.

He was critically wounded by a roadside bomb in Gaza. As Shabbat departed, so did his soul.

Betzalel didn’t come home.
He is the 896th soul we’ve lost since October 7.

Another family shattered. Another chair left empty.
We will never forget his courage. We will never stop grieving his absence.

May his memory be a blessing and may his loved ones know they are not alone. 🕯️💔

Earlier this month, around 600 people joined us for an evening of connection and gratitude. We awarded over 420 scholarships, wedding gifts, and heartfelt honors to our members-orphans, widows, and widowers-celebrating meaningful milestones in their lives.

We also paid tribute to those serving in the IDF, including reservists who fought in the Swords of Iron war. The night ended with an amazing performance by Hatikva 6.

Adv. Zehava Gross Meydan, Chair of the IDF Widows and Orphans Organization, shared:
“Widows and orphans are no longer just another group of beneficiaries. The State has a moral duty to care for them throughout their lives. We will do everything we can to ensure they receive the rights they deserve. I look at you and say sincerely, from the heart-you are not alone.”

We remain committed year-round to providing guidance, support, and a true sense of belonging.
