What kind of leadership does a nation need?

In this week’s edition of The Kiddush Times, editor Shlomo Ben-Zvi reflects on Moshe’s request for seventy leaders to help carry the burden of the people.

Drawing on Parashat Shelach, he explores the balance between strong leadership and broad representation and what it means to build institutions that reflect the diversity and unity of Am Yisrael.

At a time when questions of leadership, responsibility, and national cohesion are as relevant as ever, not to mention the upcoming elections, the article offers a thought-provoking perspective on an ancient challenge that remains strikingly modern.

Read this and much more in this week’s edition of The Kiddush Times.

Following Shavuot, the question feels especially relevant: what does it mean for Torah to help build a more united society?

In a February 2025 interview with the Philadelphia Jewish Exponent, Rabbi David Stav, Founder and Chairman of Tzohar, spoke about Tzohar’s mission to bridge divides in Israeli society, strengthen Jewish identity, and make Jewish life more accessible and meaningful for all Israelis.

His words still resonate today. At a time when Israeli society continues to face challenges from within and from without, the need for unity, dialogue, and shared responsibility remains as important as ever. 🫂

The schisms in Israeli society are an age-old dilemma. Whether it be political, societal or religious in nature, there is inherent tension between different segments of Israeli citizens, and many perceive the enduring conflict to be a regular part of Israeli life, despite the damage that these divid...

Can AI answer a halachic question? 🙏 🤖
The increasingly rapid development of AI is changing almost every aspect of our daily lives. For the rabbinical world, we're focused on whether AI can be relied upon for halachic decision-making.

In their position paper, Rabbi Yuval Cherlow and Rabbi Yaron Moskowitz approach the issue with sensitivity to both the sacred place of halacha and the growing power and potential of technology.

The paper addresses when and how AI can be used to reach halachic conclusions and where the line must be drawn.

Read their conclusion here and let us know what your thoughts are on the matter.

The advancement of generative artificial intelligence now enables use of automated tools for providing responsa and halachic rulings. This position paper deals with this technology’s use in the realm of halacha and focuses on the fundamental questions that touch upon the essence and significance o...

Ahead of Shavuot, Rabbi David Stav, Founder and Chairman of Tzohar, reflects on what it really means to receive the Torah. 🌾

His article, “The Day Before: What Celebrating Shavuot Really Means,” was published today in Jewish newspapers in Washington, D.C., New Jersey, and South Africa.

Rabbi Stav reminds us that Shavuot is not only about Torah study but also about allowing the Torah to shape how we live, treat one another, and build society. 🫂

Shavuot helps us remember that our identity as Jews is not solely about the study of Torah, but the kind of people we become because of it.

In this week’s special Shavuot edition of The Kiddush Times, Rabbanit Batya Hefter reflects on what it means to receive the Torah not only as commandments but as a force that awakens love, responsibility, and inner clarity. 🌾

Sivan is the month of Matan Torah, the moment when Torah entered the life of the Jewish people as a source of covenant, responsibility, and moral direction.

After Pesach, freedom could have remained only an escape from Egypt. But at Sinai, freedom was given purpose: a shared language of values, holiness, and responsibility.

In a time when Jewish society is still being tested both in Israel and around the world, Sivan reminds us that Torah is not meant to remain only in study. It is meant to shape the way we speak, disagree, build, and live together.
