JPPI Senior Fellow, Prof. Michal Bar-Asher Siegal, on the Deep Dive podcast by The Jerusalem Post talking about the upcoming Israeli elections. In it, she argues that campaign season structurally rewards extremism. Moreover, having spent October 7, 2023, as a visiting professor at Harvard Law School, Siegal makes the case that the Israeli government has still not absorbed the fact that every Jew abroad is now identified with Israel, whether they choose it or not, and that Israeli extremism is only intensifying an already hostile environment for Diaspora Jewry.

In the nine months after October 7, The New York Times published 6,656 articles connected to the war. During nine months of the US-led Battle of Mosul, it published just 80. The disparity goes beyond volume. Research has also identified striking imbalances in how Israel is covered compared with Rwanda and Darfur.Israel should face scrutiny. But scrutiny and obsession are not the same thing. The genocide libel did not emerge in an informational vacuum. It has been amplified by a media environment in which Israel is covered unlike almost any other country.
