Saint Lazare Holy Land has set itself a goal: to make the Old City of Jerusalem greener and more beautiful for residents and pilgrims alike. Beyond the numerous environmental benefits green roofs and walls offer, we believe that flowers and plants make the city more beautiful, and help creating a sense of shared responsibility for the communities and in the public domain. Our vision:
To develop an
d enhance the Old City of Jerusalem by increasing the awareness of the economic, social and environmental benefits of green roofs, green walls, and other forms of living architecture, through education, advocacy, professional development and celebration of excellence. The current economic market does not value the tangible benefits of green roofs and walls to their full potential. In a triple-bottom-line approach we are striving to create awareness of the need to integrate social and environmental benefits in economic planning, since the benefit of green roofs and walls is not only aesthetic, but also has bearing on the reduction of heat, increase in humidity, and urban resilience.

What we did so far? So far we planted in the Christian Quarter of Jerusalem Old City (in Saha Square and in Jabshe Street and began the first part of the Christian Quarter Street’s arches). This part of the project is made in cooperation with the Committee of the Christian Quarter and the residents, who all volunteer to promote this inspiring initiative. We would like to expand and green all the arches of the Christian Quarter Street and beyond! This beautiful long street is full of shops and commerce and is an important pathway for many pilgrims and residents. You are all invited – Organizations, institutes, individuals, and others – to join the green community of Jerusalem! Supporters will be mentioned with high appreciation! AND- The most beautiful part of the street.. will be awarded at the end of the year!
