The Jerusalem Intercultural Center

The Jerusalem Intercultural Center The Jerusalem Intercultural Center (JICC) assists the city’s residents, from diverse identities, in shaping the future of Jerusalem.

The Jerusalem Intercultural Center (JICC) was founded in 1999 with the intent of assisting the city’s residents, from diverse identities, in becoming responsible, active partners in shaping the city’s future and the development of their communities. The Center aspires to be an authority that can assist professionals, activists and organizations in promoting community dialogue in the city. The JICC

, located on the seam lines between the city’s major identities, is home to a wide range of inter-identity dialogue activity. It is also a place for professional development and training. Regional and municipal projects aiming to develop a community, based on community dialogue, also take place in the house. The JICC’s approach encourages cooperation and support between different organizations that can help create a city that involves its residents. As part of its mission, the Center conducts training programs and provides professional guidance in professional project management, community dialogue and empowerment, cultural competency and working within multi-cultural frameworks. In addition to its primary mission – Jerusalem and dialogue between different identities in the region – the Center has become a resource in the region and around the world. It also aspires to exchange knowledge and expertise between Jerusalem and other places around the world that deal with similar challenges. The JICC is dedicated to making Jerusalem a more participatory and inclusive environment for all its residents, regardless of ethnicity or creed. Its aim is to equip residents to affect the public sphere, and be equally enabled to access social, educational, religious, governmental, and health services — basic human rights. Its role is to organize and facilitate improved communication between different communities and the relevant agencies and service providers, to ensure the smooth and peaceful resolution of issues, both sensitive and routine. The JICC is located at Maale Shazach st., Mount Zion, Jerusalem. http://jicc.org.il

Dear Friends,

Jerusalem has not experienced this degree of sustained and consistent rocket fire in perhaps 60 years. One million Jerusalemites are now living with repeated alerts, disrupted routines, and the constant fear for the safety of their loved ones.

This crisis is not just physical. It is also emotional, communal, and deeply spiritual. Over the past month, some of Jerusalem’s holiest sites – the Temple Mount, Church of the Holy Sepulcher and Al-Aqsa Mosque have been shuttered at moments of deep religious significance. Prayers on the last two Fridays of Ramadan were cancelled; Palm Sunday, also cancelled. What will be during the (pilgrimage festival) of Passover, which starts in a few days, or Easter, which starts next week? These complexities add another layer of tension and pain to an already fragile period.

JICC has remained in emergency mode throughout, responding where the gaps are deepest, especially in the already underserved communities of East Jerusalem, and in Ultra-Orthodox neighborhoods, as well as in other vulnerable communities across the city.

The infographic offers a snapshot of this work over the past month.

Looking to the month ahead, we see addressing emotional needs as a primary focus. Now that Ramadan has ended, and schools are closed for Passover / Spring break, parents are more emotionally available and therefore susceptible just as prolonged stress, children at home, and holiday pressures are taking a heavier toll.

JICC is well positioned to meet these needs through our trusted community connections already active on at the grassroots level.

We are deeply grateful for the outpouring of care and solidarity from faith-based communities and friends abroad.

Dear friends,

For a week now, Jerusalem families have been living through repeated emergency alerts and sudden disruption. In those frightening, disorienting moments, parents make the same split-second check again and again: are my children safe right now?

When routines collapse, families need physical safety, emotional stability, and clear rights guidance, and fast.

JICC has shifted into emergency mode, delivering rapid, community-based support where the gaps are deepest, especially in underserved neighborhoods.

This infographic shows how JICC spent the last 7 days, addressing physical protection, emotional resilience and urgent rights support for our city's most vulnerable.
