According to our world view, building a relationship between a patient and an animal has a unique and substantial contribution to therapy. The bond with a living creature which is not another person, is by its nature a mutual relationship, which on the one hand is not intimidating and without criticism, and on the other hand, enables expression of emotion and behavior. The animal can help in many
ways: it can be a companion and an attentive listener, the animal can be an object of giving, thus facilitating a feeling of vitality and responsibility, it can stimulate movement and motor development; it can be a helpful tool in reflecting the patient’s feelings, etc. We believe that connecting to animals provides an opportunity for a beneficial relationship and for growth.
