As severe summer temperatures rise, Clean Shelter has launched a camp tent elevation project in Al-Mawasi, Khan Yunis, supporting 25 families at a total cost of $16,400. By raising the height of the tent roof to reduce thermal stress inside and significantly improve ventilation, this project is designed to minimize the impact of extreme heat on residents, especially the elderly, people with chronic health conditions (such as heart and liver diseases), and individuals with mobility impairments who live in low-set tents close to the ground.

How tent elevation works: We replaced the low aluminum poles with a specially custom-built high metal frame. Because lifting the tent leaves a gap at the bottom, we add a one-meter extra layer of tarpaulin and securely sew it together with the original tent fabric.

Take a look at the Shalabiya Building, home to 25 families, where residents faced severe challenges due to damaged infrastructure and sanitation crises. To address this, Clean Shelter repaired the building's entrance by installing a safe staircase to improve daily access, and constructed a brand-new sewage network to resolve urgent sanitation needs at a total cost of $9,265.

How we reconstructed Al-Noss Street and Roundabout

Clean Shelter dealt with a critical sanitation crisis in Mawasi, Khan Yunis, where wastewater was flooding Al-Nass Street, turning it into pools of sewage and mud that paralyzed daily life.
The main intersection was severely blocked, even though tens of thousands of passengers rely on it daily, along with vital aid trucks.

*Our Solution*: We constructed 10 absorption pits, installed proper drainage lines to clear out the wastewater, and fully repaired and paved the roundabout to make the road smooth and safe again.

*The Impact*: Over 85,000 people were protected from the risk of disease, the environment was made safer and cleaner, and access for humanitarian aid trucks and residents was restored.

In total, the intervention is estimated to have had an indirect positive impact on approximately 450,000 people by reducing public health risks and improving mobility and access across the wider area.

Clean Shelter has successfully completed an environmental and sanitation repair project along Al-Nass Street and Roundabout, directly serving over 85,000 beneficiaries and indirectly benefiting another 45,000 people.

The works included constructing 10 absorption pits, installing wastewater drainage lines, and rehabilitating and developing the Al-Nass roundabout and intersection.

This project has effectively reduced wastewater overflows and significantly improved public safety and the health environment for residents and displaced persons.

Access to water was a daily challenge for displaced families in Al-Mutahabeen Camp in Khan Yunis, where residents had to carry water over long distances to meet their basic needs. To address this, Clean Shelter installed an internal water distribution network, providing 1,040 people with reliable access to water within the camp.

This project, completed at a cost of $3,620, was made possible through your continued support and the dedication of our team on the ground.

With your help, we can continue bringing practical, life-improving solutions to families across Gaza. Please consider making a donation today.
