From the digital world into the public sphere: “The Last Photo” continues to tell the stories of those we lost.
As part of the memorial events taking place across Israel, an exhibition from “The Last Photo,” created in memory of Staff Sgt. Amit Regev z״l, opened this week.
“The Last Photo” is a project initiated by Liron Ben Yaakov, in partnership with One Family and Israel Hayom.
The project began online with a simple but powerful goal: to bring the person behind the photograph to the forefront - their life, their dreams, the people they loved, and the people who were part of their world.
Now, 22 of these stories are moving beyond the digital space and into the public sphere, displayed in an exhibition at Yehudit Station on the Tel Aviv Light Rail.
At a moving opening event attended by the families, the photographs and stories came together. 22 lives, 22 entire worlds, each one deserving to be remembered.
Liron Ben Yaakov shares:
“There is something very meaningful to me about having this exhibition here. Not in a museum, and not somewhere people have to make a special trip to in order to remember, but right in the midst of everyday life. In a place where thousands of people pass through every day on their way to work, on their way home, or simply on their way to meet a friend.
We are asking them to pause for a moment. To look at these faces. To learn their stories and remember the people whose lives made it possible for us to be here, continuing to live.
Each one of them was a world of their own. Behind every photograph is someone who loved, who dreamed, who made someone laugh, who was someone else’s whole world.
We want to make space for those lives too — for everything they meant to the people who loved them.”
