Instead of Going Forward, We Are Running Backwards: A Soul-Searching Exercise for Pride Month

Israel in 2026 is fighting on multiple fronts while trying to maintain a sense of normal life. People still go to cafés, theaters, and brunches even as missiles and reserve duty remain part of daily reality.

Part of the explanation is that Israel remains, relative to its surroundings, a liberal and pluralistic society that values progress. But progress is not guaranteed.

As Pride Month reminds us, it is time for Israel to grant full equality before the law to members of the LGBTQ+ community. It is unreasonable that LGBTQ+ citizens are asked to contribute, serve, and sacrifice like everyone else, yet are still denied basic rights such as marriage, adoption, and family formation in Israel.

The surest cure for this absurdity is to establish a constitution that enshrines full equality and protects these rights from political whims.

Politicians are trying to take over Israel’s Police Internal Affairs Department and this should concern us all!

Israel has a body whose role is to investigate police officers suspected of committing offenses. It is Israel’s Police Internal Affairs Department. Until now, it operated as part of the State Attorney’s Office, in order to ensure that even those responsible for enforcing the law are subject to the law.

Now the Knesset has passed an amendment to the law that will separate the Police Internal Affairs Department from the State Attorney’s Office, while establishing a new appointment and dismissal mechanism that gives the Minister of Justice significant influence over who leads it.

The meaning is simple: the body that is supposed to oversee the police will be exposed to political influence. And when a citizen files a complaint against a police officer, they want the decisions in their case to be made based only on the facts and the law, not on political considerations.

After they passed the amendment in the small hours of the night, we petitioned the High Court of Justice against it first thing in the morning. The amendment harms the independence of the Police Internal Affairs Department and subjects it to political influence.

It is important to emphasize: a body that investigates those in power must be independent from those in power. This is a cornerstone of a country where the law applies equally to everyone.

A huge victory for the rule of law and another blow to the perpetrator of the coup, Yariv Levin.

Following the petition of the Movement for Quality of Government, Justice Minister Levin was forced today to agree that the appointment of the President of the Supreme Court, Justice Yitzhak Amit, will be published in Reshumot (Israel's official government gazette) immediately - after many months when he refused to do so in violation of the law.

Israeli Democracy Is Under Threat.

Israel is approaching a critical election cycle - one that could shape the future of the country for years to come.

But the threats to election integrity and to every citizen’s freedom to choose have never been more sophisticated, more coordinated, or more dangerous.

Those seeking to undermine the democratic process are no longer relying only on old tactics. Today, they are using every tool available - from the misuse of public resources to digital manipulation designed to mislead voters and erode public trust.

For 36 years, the Movement for Quality Government in Israel has proven that we are not afraid to stand on the front lines. We know how to confront those who try to break the rules.

Now, we need your support more than ever.

To protect Israel’s elections, we are fighting on three critical fronts:

⚖️ Legal Action
Filing petitions, issuing urgent legal demands, and seeking injunctions against illegal campaigning, violations of election law, and the misuse of your public funds.

💻 Digital Protection
Advanced monitoring of fake news, bots, deepfakes, and AI-driven manipulation designed to distort public opinion and influence voters.

📢 Civic Action
Broad field activity, public outreach, and real-time support for reports and concerns coming directly from citizens on the ground.

We do not have the luxury of standing by. And we cannot afford to slow down.

Every donation strengthens our ability to hold the line and protect free, fair, and trustworthy elections in Israel.

Following the election of Attorney Michael Rabilo, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's personal lawyer, as Israel's State Comptroller, the Movement for Quality Government announces that it will petition the High Court of Justice.

"Electing the Prime Minister's personal attorney to a position tasked with overseeing and scrutinizing the very government he serves represents a profound conflict of interest. The election process itself was deeply flawed, with reports indicating that coalition lawmakers were required to document their votes as a test of loyalty, despite legal objections from the Knesset's own legal counsel.

What we witnessed today is more than a problematic appointment. It is an early warning sign of a broader effort to subordinate independent watchdog institutions to political loyalty. As Israel heads toward an election campaign, the message could not be clearer: the independence of democratic gatekeepers is under growing pressure.

We cannot remain silent in the face of this."

📢 Victory in the High Court: Levin Must Appoint Judges

For a year and a half, Justice Minister Yariv Levin refused to convene the Judicial Selection Committee, leaving 150 judicial positions vacant, including four seats on the Supreme Court.

Last July, we petitioned the High Court. Today, we won.

In a unanimous ruling, the Court ordered Levin to publish candidates for key judicial appointments by June 8, publish the remaining candidate lists without delay, and convene the committee as soon as possible.

The judges also made clear that the ongoing vacancies on the Supreme Court are unacceptable.

This is a major victory for the rule of law and another defeat for Levin's attempts to paralyze the justice system.

We'll be watching closely. If Levin tries to stall again, we'll be back in court.

When we don't give up, we win. ✊

Important update: Yonatan Urich is now accused of passing secret information with the intent to harm state security.
As we stand in the High Court demanding Urich’s removal from the Prime Minister’s Office, the Attorney General announced this morning that an indictment has been filed against him.
Here’s what happened:
✔️ Urich is accused of passing secret information, possessing secret information, and destroying evidence as part of the Bild affair
✔️ Until this morning he was a suspect. Now he is formally accused of some of the gravest security offenses possible
✔️ And despite this, he continues to operate inside the Prime Minister’s Office, the most sensitive office in the country, during wartime
This is exactly why we petitioned the High Court.
The state argued it was enough to bar Urich from entering “certain areas.” We say: a person accused of security offenses with intent to harm state security cannot remain at the heart of the country’s decision-making system for even one more day.
⚖️ The hearing is now taking place before Vice President Noam Solberg and Judges Yael Wilner and Alex Stein.
