P'til Tekhelet - The Association for the Promotion and Distribution of Tekhelet - is a non-profit organization based in Israel. P'til Tekhelet provides educational programming and resources pertaining to tekhelet, and produces tekhelet for tzitzit. The association is comprised of a small group of individuals whose work is done lishma - for the express purpose of making tzitzit as the halakha requires.

שמעתם אותה? את הקריאה "לך לך". שמעתם? היא הדהדה בעולם, אבל רק אברהם שמע אותה. אוזניו היו קשובות לקולו של הבורא. באיזו דרך ניתן להקשיב ולא רק לשמוע? לתורה יש עצה: פתיל תכלת. תזכורת לשים לב למה למעבר, לרוחני, לקול שמהדהד במישורים שהעין הגשמית לא רואה אבל האוזן הפנימית כן שומעת. שבת שלום!

Did you hear it? The call of "L**h L**ha", "Go forth." Did you hear it? It echoed through the world, yet only Abraham heard it. His ears were attuned to the voice of the Creator. How can we learn to truly listen, and not merely hear? The Torah offers a piece of advice: the thread of Tekhelet, the blue thread. It is a reminder to pay attention to what lies beyond, to the spiritual, to the voice that resonates on planes the physical eye cannot see but the inner ear can hear. Shabbat shalom!

הם שם, בשטח, בתנאים לא פשוטים, לפעמים בקור ובגשם, מגינים עלינו ושומרים עלינו מאויב. תודה לחיילי צה"ל! ובזכותכם, מדי שנה אנחנו תורמים סטים של תכלת לחיילים האהובים שלנו. כי למי ששומר עלינו מגיעה כל ההערכה, מכל הלב!

They’re out there in the field, in difficult conditions, sometimes in the cold and the rain, defending us and protecting us from our enemies. Thank you to the IDF soldiers! And thanks to you, every year we donate sets of Tekhelet to our beloved soldiers. Because those who protect us deserve all the honor!

בתוך הקשיים שפוקדים אותנו נמצא ה' יתברך. זו אמונת יסוד יהודית. והיא מתגלה גם בציצית: בתוך הלבן, הארצי והשגרתי, יש לפחות פתיל תכלת אחד, תמיד, שרומז על השמיים!

God is present within the hardships that befall us. This is a foundational Jewish belief, and it is revealed in the tzitzit as well: within the white, the earthly and the routine, there is always at least one thread of Tekhelet that hints at the heavens!

הידעת? כיום משמשת המילה "תכלת" לתיאור גוון של צבע שנע בין כחול לכחול כהה, אולם בעברית המקראית משמעות המילה היא "צמר שנצבע באמצעות חילזון הארגמון". אז בפעם הבאה שמישהו יגיד לכם "תכלת", תשאלו אותו: "סליחה, אתם מתכוונים לצבע או לצמר שנצבע בחילזון?"... :-)

Fun fact: Today, the Hebrew word "Tekhelet" describes a shade of color somewhere between blue and dark blue. But in Biblical Hebrew, it meant "wool dyed with the Murex snail." So the next time someone says "Tekhelet," ask them: "Sorry, do you mean the color, or wool that was dyed with a snail?"

ללכת עם הבריאה בכיסים? כן. זה אפשרי. פרשת בראשית פותחת ביצירת הימים והרקיע, עליהם חז"ל אומרים שהתכלת דומה לים, הים דומה לרקיע והרקיע - לכסא הכבוד. ציצית עם תכלת היא תזכורת יומיומית לשמיים, לים ולבריאה כולה. תזכורת לגדולתו של הבורא. שבת שלום!

Walking around with creation in your pockets? Yes, it's possible. Parashat Beresh*t opens with the creation of the sea and the sky, about which our Sages say that tekhelet resembles the sea, the sea resembles the sky, and the sky resembles the Throne of Glory. Tzitzit with tekhelet are a daily reminder of the heavens, the sea, and all of creation, a reminder of the greatness of the Creator. Shabbat Shalom!

Every Thread has a Story
In Daf Yomi yesterday (Bechorot 17a), the Gemara teaches that not all sheep’s wool is kosher for the mitzvah of Tzitzit and Tekhelet.
As we see in Rav Eli Stefansky’s masterful MDY video, every thread must be made with the wool of a sheep of pure lineage.

איך מסכמים הצלחה כל כך גדולה? בחול המועד סוכות אירחנו במרכז החינוכי שלנו יותר מ-450 אנשים, שרבים מהם נרשמו גם לסדנה. אבל המספרים הם רק חלק מהסיפור. כי חלק מאותם אנשים הם כאלו שלובשים תכלת בפעם הראשונה בחייהם, ואחרים כבר לבוש תכלת, אבל רק עכשיו הבינו לעומק את המצווה. אז איך מסמכים? בחיוך מתרגש על הזכות העצומה!

How do you sum up such a great success? B"H, During Chol HaMoed Sukkot, we hosted more than 450 people at our Educational Center, many of whom also signed up for the workshop. But the numbers are only part of the story. Some of those people are wearing Tekhelet for the first time in their lives, and others already wore it, but only now came to understand the mitzvah on a deeper level. So how do we sum it up? With an emotional smile, and gratitude for the tremendous privilege!

כמו כל עם ישראל, גם אנחנו נשמנו לרווחה אתמול כשהתברר שנוסעי המטוס ניצלו בזכות גבורה עילאית. אנחנו מתפללים שהפעם היחידה שנהיה כל כך קרובים לשמיים תהיה כשנחזיק את פתיל התכלת בתפילה...

Like the rest of the Am Israel, we breathed a huge sigh of relief yesterday when we learned that the plane's passengers were saved thanks to extraordinary heroism. Our prayer is that the only time we ever get this close to the heavens is when we hold the blue tekhelet thread of our tzitzit during prayer...
