מרכז סיוע לילדים חולי סרטן ובני משפחותיהם
In the Spring of 1999, Rabbi Yaakov Pinsky was asked to find funding to send 50 Israeli children to Camp Simcha in New York for two weeks. These children had been given the frightening diagnoses of cancer and Camp Simcha would provide them with the summer fun and excitement they desperately needed, while ten
ding to all the details of their medical needs. After a spectacular time, where the children were able to temporarily forget about their fears, Rabbi Pinsky was distressed by the realization that these children, and close to 400 others and their families, are alone in their battle with cancer for the remaining 50 weeks of the year. These families are suddenly overwhelmed and find it exceedingly difficult to continue in their daily lives in light of the devastating news. Rabbi Pinsky established Chaiyanu, and for the past 15 years, has dedicated his life to the mission of holistically providing programs, projects and services to Israel’s seriously ill children and their families. With a force of over 160 volunteers, Chaiyanu identifies each family’s unique needs and addresses those needs in the most dignified and unimposing manner. From the time of diagnosis, Chaiyanu is a one stop resource for financial assistance, medical advocacy, in-home and in-hospital tutoring, delicious meals, weekend getaways, summer camp scholarship, and social workers to list a few. Allowing families to function to their utmost level of normalcy is critical in helping the child maintain the strength and positive attitude necessary to achieve a full recovery.
