May brought harvests from communal farming plots that now number five across the village cluster. African chili (grown on land that was cleared, irrigated, and worked collectively) came out of the ground and went straight to drying. Organic beetroot established itself at the newest site. Groundnuts and sunflowers, grown across the full expanse of Mphande’s rain-fed land this season, moved to the community’s collection and bulking center ahead of storage and sale.
Three and a half years into Tevel’s work here, the village economy is producing across multiple crops, multiple plots, and multiple seasons of the year.
The Tevel newsletter follows the work in detail: the crops, the community institutions, and the people behind both. Link in bio.
