World Zionist Organization - ההסתדרות הציונית העולמית Welcome to the page of the World Zionist Organization in English

The World Zionist Organization is an organization of the Zionist movement that was founded upon the initiative of Benjamin Ze’ev Herzl on September 3, 1897, at the first Zionist Congress which took place in Basel, Switzerland. The Zionist Organization was established as an umbrella organization, to unite the activities of all Zionist bodies in the world. The platform of the Zionist movement is the

"Basel Plan", which was formulated by a resolution of the same Congress and coined by Max Nordau: “Zionism strives to establish a homeland for the Jewish people in the Land of Israel, which is guaranteed according to general law, that is, an aspiration to establish a national home for the Jews in the Land of Israel, with the consent of the nations of the world.”

In order to implement the Basel plan, the Zionist Organization was established. Their role was to concentrate the Zionist effort on aliyah, settling the land of Israel, acquiring land and obtaining the charter from the necessary governments. The Zionist Organization is one of the national institutions that works to fulfill the goal of the Zionist movement - the establishment of a national home for the Jewish people in Israel, and is the parent body of the Jewish National Fund, the Jewish Agency for Israel and the Keren Hayesod. The World Zionist organization’s goals were redefined at the 23rd Zionist Congress, which convened in Jerusalem in 1951, after its main goal until then - the establishment of a Jewish state - was fulfilled. The World Zionist Organization continues its activities today, focusing mainly on encouraging aliyah, deepening the connection between the State of Israel and Diaspora Jewry, furthering Zionist education and the study of the Hebrew language, and manning the struggle against anti-Semitism.

A wave of blue and white swept through the streets of Manhattan as tens of thousands of participants filled one of New York City’s main avenues in a powerful display of unity, Jewish pride, and love for Israel.

It was an inspiring and moving event that demonstrated the strength of the Jewish people when they stand together.

We were proud to take part in the Celebrate Israel Parade alongside the American Zionist Movement (AZM), Jewish communities, organizations, young people, families, and activists from across New York and the Jewish world, all coming together to express unwavering support for the State of Israel and to strengthen the deep bond between Israel and Jewish communities around the globe.

Throughout the day, a remarkable sense of solidarity could be felt, accompanied by a clear and unequivocal message: the Jewish people stand united against antisemitism, incitement, and hatred, and continue to proudly defend their right to live in security, freedom, and a strong Jewish state.

The parade was far more than a celebratory event. It was a living expression of the mutual responsibility that connects Jewish communities worldwide, and a powerful reminder that even in the most challenging times, the people of Israel know how to come together, draw strength from one another, and raise their voices as one.

Thank you to everyone who marched, proudly waved the Israeli flag, and sent a clear message of unity, Zionism, and love for Israel. 🇮🇱💙🤍

Join us for an evening with rescued hostage Almog Meir Jan and injured IDF soldier Ben Ladany – two young men whose lives were forever changed by October 7 and the war that followed. They will share their experiences in a rare public appearance, interviewed by JC journalist Nicole Lampert.

In an intimate and honest conversation, Almog and Ben will reflect on the moments that defined them, the choices they made and the lessons they learned. Their stories are inspiring testaments to the power of community and the strength of individual survivors.

Fighting Antisemitism. Strengthening Jewish Identity.

Leaders, activists, students, and members of the Jewish community gathered in Manhattan for the World Zionist Organization’s conference, “Combating Antisemitism Today” — an evening dedicated to addressing one of the most pressing challenges facing the Jewish people around the world.

At a time when antisemitism is on the rise on campuses, across social media, and in the public sphere, the conference created an important space for meaningful dialogue about responsibility, Jewish resilience, Zionism, and the collective fight against hatred and incitement.

Throughout the evening, participants discussed the challenges facing Jewish students, ways to strengthen Jewish identity and security within communities, and the importance of standing proudly and unapologetically Jewish and Zionist in the face of antisemitism in all its forms.

We extend our gratitude to the Department for Combating Antisemitism at the World Zionist Organization, led by Ifat Ovadia-Luski, for organizing this important conference and for its ongoing work on behalf of Jewish communities around the world.

The conference was held in the presence of World Zionist Organization Chairman Yaakov Hagoel, Yishai Merling, Zach Sage Fox, Bruce Blakeman, Alyza Lewin, and Mendi Hecht.

Together, we will continue to strengthen Jewish communities worldwide and stand against antisemitism wherever and whenever it appears.

When someone calls for a boycott of Israeli products, others choose to respond differently.

Ahead of the annual Israel Day Parade in New York City, one of the most significant events for the Jewish community in the United States, the UJA-Federation of New York purchased approximately 20,000 bags of Israeli Bamba to be distributed to parade participants as a gesture of solidarity with Israel, support for Israeli industry, and a celebration of the deep bond between Israel and Jewish communities around the world.

What began as a response to calls to boycott Israeli products became a small but meaningful symbol of unity. In the face of efforts to isolate Israel, Jewish community leaders in New York chose to strengthen the connection, support Israeli-made products, and proudly affirm their Jewish and Zionist identity.

Zionism has always been far more than a political idea. It is mutual responsibility, a shared destiny, and a sense of belonging that connects Jews in Israel with Jewish communities across the globe.

Sometimes, even a bag of Bamba can tell a bigger story: the story of one people, connected across continents, standing together with resilience, pride, and solidarity in the face of pressure and boycotts.

This Jewish American Heritage Month, we proudly celebrate the generations of Jewish Americans whose vision, courage and leadership helped shape both the United States and the story of the Jewish people worldwide.

From Henrietta Szold and Emma Lazarus to Jacob Schiff, Lillian Wald and William Shemin, their legacy lives on through a commitment to community, justice, resilience and the enduring bond between America, Israel and the Jewish world.

This month, we honor their impact and celebrate the rich spirit of Jewish American life. 🇺🇸🇮🇱

Shavuot is a holiday of harvest, first fruits and renewal, but above all, it is one of the holidays most deeply rooted in Jewish tradition. In Jewish history and culture, Shavuot marks both the harvest season and the giving of the Torah, a moment that symbolizes learning, shared responsibility, community and the passing of tradition from generation to generation.

For centuries, Jewish communities around the world celebrated Shavuot through study, gathering together, bringing first fruits, wearing white and staying up through the night for Tikkun Leil Shavuot. Many of the customs we still know today, from baskets of bikkurim to tables filled with dairy dishes and wheat decorations, grew out of these traditions and became part of Jewish cultural life across generations.

In honor of the holiday, we prepared a special game for you:
"Did it really happen, or not?"

Facts, stories and surprising moments from Jewish history, tradition and culture, some completely true, and some… not quite 😉
Can you tell which ones really happened?
