IIJG is committed to developing Jewish genealogy into a recognized field of academic investigation, within the realm of Jewish Studies and in association with a broad range of other sciences on an inter-disciplinary basis. IIJG was created in 2006 by a group of enthusiast Jewish genealogists and prominent academic scholars led by Dr. Neville Lamdan z"l to advance the status of Jewish Genealogy as

a field for academic endeavor and as a legitimate branch of Jewish Studies. Major achievements include, to this day, more than 30 projects and researches initiated or supported by the Institute which were published on our web site https://iijg.org . Other significant contributions are the maps of the European Jewish communities along time, Sephardic DNA, the Beider-Morse Phonetic Matching. We believe that Jewish genealogy is far too important not to be addressed with a scientific approach just as any other academic domains. We also believe that Jewish genealogy is a discipline of its own, not to be diluted into either history, folklore, migrations or any other existing academic domain of studies, with multiple connections to fields such as geography, onomastics and genetics. We invite you to support our action, to follow us and propose initiatives.

It is with great sorrow we share the news of Gary Mokotoff’s death on August 31, 2025. IIJG sends heartfelt condolences to his family. We are grateful to have know such a pioneer in the world of Jewish Genealogy and proud to have counted him amongst the friends and staunch supporters of IIJG.
