Kamal, a father of four from Rafah, lost his home, livelihood in agriculture, and sense of stability after repeated displacement during Israel’s genocide on Gaza. When he finally earned wages through a temporary Oxfam-supported job repairing and reinforcing tents in displacement camps, the first thing he bought was a phone for his daughter so she could continue her high school education.

For Kamal, the phone was not a luxury but a way to protect her future at a time when war had pushed learning onto screens and threatened to take that future away.

Now living with his family and disabled mother in a fragile shelter near Al-Aqsa University in Khan Younis, Kamal continues to struggle with harsh conditions, scarce resources, and no steady work, but he still helps others in the camp in whatever he can.

More than temporary relief, what he longs for is to return to Rafah, reopen his farmland, and regain the dignified life and work that should never have been taken from him.

"We were not born to live on the margins. Disability is not an excuse to hide; rather, it is a motivation to participate, lead, and affect change through our own actions.
In a new episode of the "Voices That Cannot Be Demolished" podcast series from Gaza, we are pleased to welcome disability rights advocate Professor Nesma Al-Ghoul, who delivers these inspiring words. She emphasizes that the rights of individuals with disabilities are neither a favor nor a privilege, but a fundamental right that requires empowerment and full inclusion in society without discrimination or exclusion.

Palestinian farmers in the Jordan Valley now have more water for their crops thanks to the rehabilitation of 22 water harvesting pools by Oxfam and the Economic & Social Development Center of Palestine (ESDC).

Before, farmers lost up to 60% of their water due to leaks and high temperatures but now, with the se of new tarps, water reaches their fields reliably. They are even able to grow traditional crops they had stopped planting.

More water means better harvests, more land under cultivation, and a stronger connection to their land. “We would protect our land with our lives. As long as we breathe, we’ll keep investing in it,” one farmer says. The project is funded by Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ)

Sabreen Al Basheti once supported her family of nine in Rafah in Gaza through a small home-based baking business, while her husband sold spices from a street stall.

But Israel’s war on Gaza destroyed their home, and after her husband was killed, she and her seven children were forced into repeated displacement until they ended up in a tent in Al-Mawasi, Khan Younis.

After being displaced 14 times, losing her income, and watching her eldest son struggle to find work, Sabreen tried to rebuild by baking again, first through a clay oven in the camp, but rising costs made even that impossible.

Living in harsh and undignified conditions, she turned to support provided by Wefaq Association through Oxfam, where family counseling, individual case management, and essential assistance helped her regain some strength and cope with overwhelming grief and pressure.

What happens when you mix innovation with resilience? A remarkable harvest!

For years, frost made it impossible for Ghanem, a Palestinian farmer from the Northern Jordan valley to grow potatoes. But with innovation, new tools and support from the Economic & Social Development Center of Palestine (ESDC), he's just reaped a huge harvest of 680 boxes from a single acre.

It's an example of more than just a successful crop; it's a way to stay on the land and protect livelihoods. This is what it looks like to be resilient.

The project is funded by Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ)
