UN Volunteers Palestine Welcome to the page of the United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).

Since its inception in 1994, UNV in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) has been instrumental in responding to the humanitarian and developmental needs of the Palestinian people. Motivated by their commitment to peace and development, national and international UN Volunteers have been deployed across the oPt to assist develop the capacities of the Palestinian institutions and civil society or

ganizations, as well as support the implementation of UN programmes/projects. During 2013, about 35 national and international UN Volunteers were assigned to East Jerusalem, West Bank, Gaza Strip, and several UN entities and governmental institutions. Approximately 20 of them were national UN Volunteers. In 2013 alone, 10 international UN Volunteers have been recruited from Belgium, Germany, Finland, Norway, Japan and France. The international UN Volunteers are sponsored and funded by their own governments. The UN Volunteers have contributed to the following programme areas of interventions: institutional capacity development, youth and women empowerment, peace building and social cohesion, humanitarian relief, delivery of basic services, working towards poverty reduction, community resilience, environment and climate change.

رسمياً، أُعلن عام 2026 عاماً دولياً للمتطوعين من أجل التنمية المستدامة.

وفي هذا الإطار، نُبرز دور 10 من متطوعي الأمم المتحدة ضمن برنامج الاستثمار من أجل تعزيز القدرة على الصمود (IPR)، الذي ينفذه برنامج الأمم المتحدة الإنمائي (UNDP/PAPP) بتمويل من الحكومة الألمانية عبر بنك التنمية الألماني (KfW). حيث عملوا على تحديد احتياجات 134 مجتمعاً ضمن 29 تجمعاً في 10 محافظات، ما أسهم في تصميم 9 مبادرات شملت:

✅ تحسين الوصول إلى خدمات اجتماعية مراعية للنوع الاجتماعي، والوصول إلى أكثر من 1,000 فرد من الضفة الغربية والقدس الشرقية.

✅ دعم 384 امرأة، وإطلاق 9 مبادرات تقودها النساء والشباب.

✅ تعزيز التماسك الاجتماعي من خلال إشراك 1,575 مشاركاً في مبادرات مجتمعية.

يعكس هذا العمل قوة العمل التطوعي في دفع عجلة التنمية المستدامة القائمة على المجتمع، وضمان عدم ترك أي أحد خلف الركب.

2026 has officially been declared the International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development.

In this context, we highlight the contribution of 10 UN Volunteers working under the Investment Programme for Resilience (IPR), implemented by UNDP/PAPP and funded by the Government of Germany through its Development Bank (KfW). They supported the identification of needs across 134 communities within 29 clusters in 10 governorates, contributing to the design of nine initiatives, including:

✅ Improving access to gender-responsive social services, reaching over 1,000 individuals across the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

✅ Supporting 384 women and launching nine women- and youth-led initiatives.

✅ Strengthening social cohesion by engaging 1,575 participants in community-based initiatives.

This work reflects the power of volunteerism in advancing sustainable, community-led development and ensuring that no one is left behind.
