Achiya's mission is to develop and give tools to children in the Israeli Ultra-Orthodox community who are diverse learners, so that they can succeed in a regular classroom. Organization Description
For the last twenty three years, Achiya has been helping thousands of children each year, who are diverse learners within the Haredi (Ultra-Orthodox) community of central Israel through its multidiscipl

inary programs. Our philosophy is that it is easier to resolve a problem before it becomes a crisis. In providing these children with the tools they need to succeed in life, we prevent them from dropping out of school, becoming social outcasts, or worse. To put it simply, Achiya saves children before they need to be saved. Our four pronged approach is unique:

Changing the educational system: Achiya’s Teachers’ Training College was the first teachers’ training program for Haredi men to introduce special education courses. More than 150 men have graduated Achiya's Educational Counseling B.A. program in collaboration with the Bar Ilan University. 6,000 Achiya graduates with certification by the MInistry of Education are bringing change to the Talmud Torah (i.e. Ultra-orthodox schools for boys) educational system in Israel. 1,200 students are presently studying in the college's 15 branches throughout Israel. Identifying children who need help: In 2015, our early childhood outreach programs screened over 3,100 children for signs of learning disabilities, ADHD and developmental delays. More than 1,800 children took part in direct intervention and enrichment programs in the schools. Multidisciplinary treatment centers: In 2015, Achiya’ s Bnei Brak and Elad Learning and Developmental Centers serviced over 4,600 children providing over 69,000 private sessions of professional therapy and/or specialized remedial tutoring. Raising awareness in the community: Achiya is raising awareness to the needs and abilities of children who are diverse learners through parenting workshops, workshops and conventions for Talmud Torah teachers and principals and support groups for parents of ADHD children. Our main partners: Ministries of Education, Health and Welfare, The NII and its Foundations for children at risk and development for invalids , Israeli Foundations, the Harry & Jeanette Weinberg Foundation, The Bernard van Leer Foundation.
