At this time, 21 works of art are being created in 16 studios across the country by the talented hands of 16 artists who responded to our challenge, with a focus on artists who were evacuated from their homes. After learning about the organization and getting to know our frameworks, each artist created an artistic concept that expresses Orr Shalom's story using various materials, colors, and textures.
The unique works will be presented at our annual event, which will be held on Sunday, 16/6, at 19:00 at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.
A glimpse at some of the art:
"An amulet," a digital collage, consists of symbols of protection and good luck intended to protect foster children. It is a work by Sophie Barzon Mackay, the artist and gallery creator of Kibbutz Be'er.
The piece "Benny's Boots," made of ceramics, paper, and epoxy, is by Donna Johnson Hecker, an American artist who has been supporting and accompanying our organization with her partner Gordon for many years. On June 23, she met our graduate, the late Benny Teke, who fell in battle on 7/10. For Donna, "Benny's Boots" symbolize life, love, and hope that last forever despite hardship and loss.
A series of photographs by art student Ala Raniyets Dunaisky. At the age of 12, Ala was taken out of her home and placed with a foster family. Her photographs deal with processing memories of her life before moving to the foster family.
"Blessings for the House" is a collage, drawing, and embroidery on paper series by Yael Serlin, an artist whose family was evacuated from the north. It is for our foster families and graduates who are establishing a home.
The event also includes a reception and cocktail dinner, a presentation of the organization's activities, and a meeting with the creator and musician Micah Biton, who grew up in a foster family and was evacuated from his home in Netiv HaAsara on 7/10.
Come rekindle the light and hope together with us.
