We are proud to highlight Dr. Opher Mendelsohn’s work advancing sustainable agriculture and food security in communities across Kenya - bringing together knowledge, innovation, and impact.
Dr. Opher Mendelsohn leads the organization’s Kenyan projects. He is an expert in sustainable agriculture and food security, and is experienced in community work. Opher also enables Engineers Without Borders to integrate high-level academic research with real-world fieldwork.

Speaking of our amazing experts and mentors, meet the incredible Tzipora Nussbaum! An engineer, a leading expert in social entrepreneurship, and a brilliant entrepreneur in her own right, Tzipora is also a dedicated mentor to Engineers Without Borders Israel. Last week, she met with our students in the Disaster Management Program at the School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University, who are learning project management through our unique hands-on approach. It was a fascinating session that connected theory with practice—combining professional knowledge, real-world field experience, and insights from impactful projects across Africa. The discussion highlighted both the opportunities and challenges of creating sustainable solutions in complex environments. Thank you, Tzipora, for sharing your expertise, your boundless energy, and an inspiring lecture that left a lasting impression on all of us. We are grateful to have you as part of our community of mentors and changemakers.

בשבוע שעבר היא נפגשה עם הסטודנטים שלנו בתוכנית לניהול מצבי אסון באוניברסיטת תל אביב, הלומדים ניהול פרויקטים באמצעות הגישה הייחודית והמעשית שלנו, המחברת בין ידע אקדמי לעשייה בשטח.

במהלך המפגש התקיים דיון מרתק שחיבר בין תיאוריה לפרקטיקה, ושילב ידע מקצועי, ניסיון מעשי מהשטח ותובנות מפרויקטים בעלי השפעה ברחבי אפריקה. השיחה האירה את ההזדמנויות לצד האתגרים הכרוכים ביצירת פתרונות בני-קיימא בסביבות מורכבות.

With a background in planning and engineering, she volunteers with Engineers Without Borders, supports individualized accessibility adaptations, leads volunteer teams, and connects professional solutions directly to people - in both public and private spaces. As one of the founders of the accessibility project that received the President’s Award for Volunteerism, her impact is felt in every aspect of our work.

A few days ago, the EWB-IL expert delegation returned from our food security project in Nakuru, Kenya.

in spite the difficult reality in Israel, EWB continue to focus on what we do best: working hand in hand with our partner communities to build a more resilient and sustainable future for all.

During the visit, our delegation advanced several key initiatives:
* Strengthening food security through farmer training and local seedling production
* Developing a long-term, locally led innovation model driven by farmers
* Expanding activities to Menengai sub-county, including the establishment of a new local innovation center for sustainable agriculture

The delegation also met with the EWB-IL Ben-Gurion University branch team, who joined to experience the fieldwork firsthand and deepen their connection to the project’s impact.
EWB-IL is moving forward, advancing food security for all.

לפני מספר ימים חזרה משלחת המומחים של EWB-IL מפרויקט ביטחון המזון שלנו בנאקורו, קניה.

בצל המציאות הקשה והמורכבת בישראל, אנחנו ממשיכים להתמקד במה שאנחנו טובים בו: עבודה צמודה עם הקהילות השותפות שלנו לבניית עתיד משגשג ובר-קיימא.

במהלך הביקור, המשלחת שלנו קידמה מספר יוזמות מרכזיות:
* חיזוק ביטחון המזון באמצעות הכשרת חקלאים וייצור שתילים איכותיים.
* פיתוח תוכנית הכשרה ארוכת טווח המבוססת על מודל חדשנות בהובלת חקלאים מקומיים
* הרחבת הפעילות לתת-מחוז מננגאי והקמת מרכז חדשות לחקלאות מקיימת.

בפרויקט בנאקורו ביקרו גם נציגי הסניף שלנו באוניברסיטת בן-גוריון, שהגיעו ללמוד על הפעילות בשטח.

אנחנו ממשיכים ביתר שאת במשימה שלנו, היום יותר מתמיד, עשייה ישראלית מקצועית לשיפור איכות חייהם של אנשים רבים בעולם למען עתיד טוב יותר עבור כולנו.

One of the most inspiring parts of our work is moving between being the teacher and being the student. We teach — and we learn.

This is the dynamic we love most in our R&D greenhouse in Keriko: knowledge flows in both directions. As we share tools and experience, we gain new insights, refine our methods, and grow together.

היום יוצאת לדרך, לראשונה, משלחת משולבת של הארגון הארצי ושל מהנדסים ללא גבולות אוניברסיטת בן גוריון בנגב- Engineers Without Borders BGU.

המשלחת תצא לקניה במטרה לחזק ולקדם את פרויקט ביטחון המזון שלנו בנאקורו, כחלק ממהלך אסטרטגי להרחבת פעילות הארגון באזור.

במסגרת הביקור תפעל המשלחת לשכפול והטמעת פרויקט “Mana Yetu” בשני מחוזות נוספים, וכן להמשך הפעילות באזור רוסינגה איילנד.

אנו מאחלים הצלחה רבה לחברי וחברות המשלחת ומודים להם על מחויבותם לקידום העשייה והרחבת ההשפעה בשטח.✈️🌍

Today, for the first time, a joint delegation of EWB-IL and מהנדסים ללא גבולות אוניברסיטת בן גוריון בנגב- Engineers Without Borders BGU is departing together.
The delegation will travel to Kenya to strengthen and promote our food security project in Nakuru, as part of a strategic effort to expand the organization’s activities in the region.
During the visit, the delegation will work to replicate and implement the “Mana Yetu” project in two additional districts, as well as continue its work in the Rusinga Island area.
We wish the delegation members great success and thank them for their commitment to promoting the organization’s work and expanding its impact on the ground. ✈️🌍

Here’s a glimpse into what we’ve been up to over the past two weeks 👇
A delegation from EWB-IL traveled to Mexico to strengthen international connections and lay the foundation for new partnerships.

During the visit, we met with representatives from different parts of the Jewish community in Mexico City — a community deeply committed to making a positive impact through giving and engagement. We shared our mission, presented our ongoing initiatives, and explored opportunities for meaningful, long-term collaboration.

Taking our work across borders is part of our commitment to building strong, value-driven partnerships wherever there is openness to collaborate.

We’re grateful for the meaningful meetings — and excited about what comes next.
