Afnan Al Galil is a grassroots non-for-profit-organization located in the Arab community of Arraba in the Western Galilee/Israel. It rose in 2007 as a result of Arab women’s initiative, striving for change and improvement of their own and their family’s social and economic situation. Afnan Al Galil provides empowerment and leadership education for Arab women and girls as well as awareness building programs about human and gender rights , social and health issues and community processes involvement. Afnan al Galil initiates alternative and rural tourism in Arraba as part of a regional network. Local women of all ages are involved in conserving and reviving traditional Palestinian customs. They produce artificial crafts, mainly Palestinian embroidery, that are presented and offered to visiting people and related platforms like festivals or bazaars. By creating income generating opportunities, it advantages social and economic development. The tourist project is an ideal tool for defining identity, for intercultural and interreligious learning and for mediating Arraba’s rich heritage.
