“Afula bows its head this morning upon hearing the bitter news of the fall of Sergeant Moshe Yitzhak HaCohen Katz (22), a fighter in Battalion 890 of the Paratroopers Brigade, who was killed on Friday night by Hezbollah rocket fire directed at forces operating in southern Lebanon. In the incident, three additional soldiers were moderately wounded, and we pray for their recovery.
Yitzhak HaCohen Katz, of blessed memory, immigrated to Israel from New Haven, Connecticut, which is part of a network of Jewish communities that signed a regional partnership covenant with the city of Afula about three decades ago. Over the years, representatives of these communities hosted delegations from Israel and were themselves hosted here in Afula. Moshe Yitzhak, of blessed memory, left behind his parents, Devorah and Mendy, and four brothers and sisters, and we share in the deep sorrow of the family and the Jewish community.
The people of Israel have been struggling for their freedom for over 3,000 years and have paid a heavy price. May Yitzhak, of blessed memory, a son of a Chabad family, be the last fallen, and may the merit of the Lubavitcher Rebbe—whose birthday is today—stand by his family and all the people of Israel 💙🇮🇱״
עפולה מרכינה ראשה הבוקר למשמע הבשורה המרה על נפילתו של סמל משה יצחק הכהן כץ (22), לוחם בגדוד 890 של הצנחנים, שנהרג ביום שישי בלילה מירי רקטי של חיזבאללה לעבר הכוחות שפועלים בדרום לבנון. באירוע נפצעו באורח בינוני שלושה לוחמים נוספים ואנו נושאים תפילה לשלומם.
יצחק הכהן כץ ז"ל עלה לישראל מניו הייבן קונטיקט, ששייכת לאגד קהילות יהודיות שחתמו לפני כשלושה עשורים ברית אזורית עם העיר עפולה. לאורך השנים אירחו נציגי הקהילות משלחות מישראל והתארחו כאן אצלנו בעפולה. משה יצחק ז"ל הותיר אחריו הורים, דבורה ומנדי, וארבעה אחים ואחיות ואנו משתתפים בצער המשפחה והקהילה היהודית.
עם ישראל נאבק כבר למעלה מ-3000 שנה על חירותו ומשלם על כך מחיר כבד. מי יתן ויצחק ז"ל, בן למשפחה חב"דניקית, יהיה הנופל האחרון וזכותו של הרבי מלובביץ', שהיום יום הולדתו, תעמוד למשפחתו ולכל עם ישראל💙🇮🇱
