May is Bladder Cancer Awareness Month.

According to Irish Cancer Society, around 500 people are diagnosed with bladder cancer each year in Ireland.

There are two main types of Bladder Cancer:

non-muscle invasive bladder cancer - affects the lining or the layer below the lining of the bladder.

&

muscle-invasive bladder cancer - when the cancer has developed in the muscle of the bladder.

Most at risk for bladder cancer are:

*Over the age of 50
*Men are more likely to be diagnosed with bladder cancer.
*Smokers - the chemicals in ci******es affect the stomach lining.

Survival rate for bladder cancer are quite high. If you think you might be experiencing any symptoms of Bladder Cancer, please contact your GP.

May is Melanoma & Skin Cancer Awareness Month.

Despite the constant rain the we get in Ireland, skin cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in the country.

Best ways to prevent skin cancer:

Wear suncream, factor 50 is ideal.
Wear UV protective clothing.
Avoid the parts of the day that the sun rays are most intense, which is 10am to 3pm
Avoid sunbeds and sun tanning.

Around 400 people are diagnosed with a brain tumour in Ireland a year according to the Irish Cancer Society.

Not all brain tumour are cancerous and symptoms vary between individuals.

Always consult a doctor if you believe you are having symptoms of a possible brain tumour.
