Athlone to Galway Greenway

We have reached another milestone in the development of a new greenway connecting Athlone to Galway. The emerging preferred route will be published next week and followed by four public information events. It’s vital that land and homeowner engagement continues over the coming months so that concerns are addressed in the shortest possible timeframe. If you have an interest in this project, I would encourage you to attend one of the public information sessions.

This is an old railway line that has been converted into a fantastic greenway connecting rural towns in Co. Limerick. That very same opportunity now presents to us in East Galway, to connect Athenry, Ballyglunin, Tuam and Milltown, and this would make a fabulous addition to Epic Route 4 as it connects at Athenry.

Please have a look at this video, and imagine what it would be like to have the same opportunity locally. Please help us make it happen by making your own submission to Galway Co. Council, asking them to make our Quiet Man Greenway a priority in the upcoming County Development Plan. We’ve done most of the work for you in writing the submission. All you need to do is private message me your name and address and I’ll send you a card in the post. Then fill in your name and address, sign it, put a stamp on it and post it. We need to have our
voice heard. Thank you, Ciaran.

A really wonderful afternoon in Woodford on Epic Route 4 today. What a gem of a village and landscape. It’s a credit to the local community.

Parked in the village, a beautiful walk in Derrycrag Woods, and then a lovely cuppa from the really excellent Willow Cafe in Woodford Garden Centre. Sundays are made for this.

Woodford, a quaint little village in Galway is home to three nature reserves. Both young and old will enjoy hitting the trails and exploring below the canopy. Lost in the carpet of moss and ferns, it doesn’t take much to conjure up images of fairies and elves in these enchanted woods. They’re in good company too, with red squirrels, foxes, badgers, deer and other animals and birds sharing their habitat...

So much to explore and enjoy!

Delighted to see the Greenway Project Team mailing this excellent booklet to all of the landowners along Epic Route 4 and inviting them to be part of a very meaningful process of engagement. This is the way to build confidence in our greenway route.
