A HUGE congratulations to Kathryn Fitzpatrick on completing the legendary Wicklow Round in an incredible time of 22 hours 44 minutes 👏⛰️

The Wicklow Round is one of Ireland’s toughest endurance challenges, involving a looped course through the Wicklow Mountains covering 26 peaks, over 100km, and more than 6,000m of elevation gain — all to be completed within 24 hours.

An extraordinary achievement of endurance, determination and resilience.

We were delighted to see Kathryn crossing the finish line wearing one of our event tops as she completed this epic challenge.

Congratulations again Kathryn — a truly outstanding accomplishment! 💙💛

Busy weekend on the hills for ourselves and Glen of Imaal Irish Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team, between training and callouts.
On Saturday, we assisted a walker with a suspected broken leg on the Little Sugarloaf, stretchering them safely down to an ambulance.
Sunday brought another callout to Tibradden Mountain for a walker with a suspected broken ankle.
The team was already out doing helicopter training with Bristow and R116 when the call came in, with another group on a rope rescue course in Dalkey Quarry, making for a particularly busy day.
Thanks to all our volunteers who responded, and to for the training session and for his support on rope rescue.
Heading to the hills? Plan your route, check the weather, and let someone know where you’re going. And especially don’t be afraid to call if you need help.
Call 112 or 999 and ask for Mountain Rescue, our volunteers are ready to respond 24/7. 100% Volunteer // 100% Committed.

Last night saw the team gather for our AGM.
During which we saw our current team leader Shane Daly step away from his TL role after 3 years at the helm and pass the axe to our incoming Team Leader Sean Hogan.

During his time leading the team, Shane lead countless rescue missions, fundraising events and team gatherings.
Shane was also instrumental in helping bring the new base development project to where it is today. Shane will continue to work within the Rescue team helping people lost or hurt in the Highlands of Dublin Wicklow and Louth.

Our new Team Leader Sean already serves massive roles within the team, with a vast knowledge of remote care and experience within Mountain Rescue. The Team could not be in safer hands.

Mountain Rescue often means treating people in tough conditions, far from hospital.

When we reach a casualty injured in a remote location, having the correct medications can make all the difference.

We’re incredibly fortunate to have the ongoing support of the Mater Private Network.
The Mater private network provides our team with all the medications we need to deliver pain relief and emergency care during callouts in the wild and remote parts of Dublin and Wicklow.

Their commitment over the years has been invaluable, and we’re truly grateful for everything they do for our team and the people we help.

Callouts 12 & 13
A busy Bank Holiday for the team, with two taskings. Saturday evening saw us assist a walker who had lost their way while descending from Lugnaquilla. The walker was fit, well, and in good spirits – their only complaint was wet feet.
We established good voice communication, and data provided by the Gardaí pinpointed them just south of the track on Camara Hill. Working with our colleagues from the Glen of Imaal Irish Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team, the walker was located and guided back to their car.
We were back out on Bank Holiday Monday to help an injured hiker with a suspected broken ankle high up on Camaderry above the miner’s village.
Mountain rescue reached the casualty, assessed them, splinted the injury, administered pain relief, and packaged them for extraction. The casualty was then stretchered off the hill and handed over to a waiting ambulance for onward care.

Callout 9
A gentle reminder from your friendly neighbourhood mountain rescue team: That river you managed to hop across this morning? It can turn into a torrent by evening, especially after the type of rain we get all too often in Wicklow.
If you’re planning a loop walk that involves crossing water, always have a Plan B. And if you find yourself cut off by a river, don’t chance it. Stay safe, stay put, and give us a shout on 112/999.
Which brings us to Saturday evening, when a group of hikers completed a hike up around Tonlagee, but got unlucky and found themselves stranded. The Glenmacnass river, which they’d crossed earlier, had risen significantly in only a few hours while they were on the hills and cut off their return route to the car park.
A bystander spotted the group and reported the issue to , who tasked our team and our colleagues from the Glen of Imaal Irish Red Cross Mountain Rescue.
We made initial contact with the group and threw additional kit across the river to keep them warm. Our team then redeployed into the Brockagh track system to hike up an alternative route to reach them.
Everyone was assessed, found to be well, and escorted safely off the hill before being returned to their vehicles.
Take care out there. When in doubt, we’re just a phone call away. Call 112 or 999 and ask for Mountain Rescue, our volunteers are ready to respond 24/7. 100% Volunteer // 100% Committed.

Recently some of our team members welcomed members of the Irish Ramblers walking club to a tour of our ongoing base build near Roundwood, Co. Wicklow.

The Irish Ramblers group who have always been significant supporters of our team, raised and donated €5,000. An incredible amount which will go directly towards the completion of our new base.

These massive acts of kindness have played a pivotal role in getting us to where we are now. After many years of fundraising to build a permanent base to support our operations of saving lives in remote places, we are almost home. We are extremely grateful to everyone who has helped us build our new home in the Wicklow Mountains.

Callouts 5 & 6: A huge thank you to everyone who braved some tasty weather conditions and supported us at .dwmrt last weekend. Without that support, we couldn’t do what we do.
Within a few hours of wrapping up the event, we were back to business as usual with two callouts.
On Saturday evening, while still recovering from the challenge, we received our fifth tasking of 2026.
Our team and our colleagues from Glen of Imaal Irish Red Cross Mountain Rescue Team were tasked by to help two walkers who had become disoriented in Djouce Woods near Powerscourt Waterfall.
As darkness fell, the pair found themselves lost in dense forest on difficult terrain. They did exactly the right thing by calling 112/999 for help. We located both walkers, assessed them, and guided them safely off the hill.
The teams were back out again on Sunday to help a hiker with a suspected broken ankle near the top of Tonelagee.
We hiked up the mountain, located, assessed, and treated the casualty. We’re grateful for the support from our colleagues from who then airlifted the casualty for onward care.
The support we get at events like the Art O’Neill Challenge helps us provide this vital service to anyone who needs it in the hills.
Stay safe out there, and if you get into difficulty, don’t hesitate to call for help. That’s what we’re here for.
