The Japanese Film Festival returns to Wexford this April with 2 fantastic movie offerings!

28th April 2026, 8pm @ Wexford Arts Centre

"An Autumn Afternoon" is a 1962 classic masterpiece, the swan song of renowned director Yasujiro Ozu famed for his insight into the humsn condition. In post-war Japan, a widower recognizes that he has to marry off the daughter who has been taking care of his household.

29th April 2026, 8pm @ Wexford Arts Centre

"The Colours Within", the latest animated film by Naoko Yamada ("A Silent Voice", "Liz and the Blue Bird"), is a slice-of-life feature about a trio of high school students learning to accept themselves, spurred on by their shared passion for music.

Wexford County Council in partnership with the Chinese Embassy in Ireland is delighted to mark the Chinese New Year of the Horse Celebrations 2026 in Ireland, with a special performance of the highly renowned Zhejiang Wu Opera Troupe on Wednesday 18th February at 7.30 pm in the National Opera House in Wexford.

Wu Opera is a vibrant ancient Chinese opera style from Zhejiang province in eastern China, known for its blend of singing, acting, martial arts, acrobatics, stunning costumes and face- changing techniques.

The show will include excerpts from a selection of traditional Wu Operas, adapted from ancient Chinese Mythology, showcasing highly skilled singing, acrobatics, visually spectacular costumes, and traditional Chinese music combined with operatic movements.

This special one-off event for Wexford to mark the Chinese New Year is being offered for free, and prebooking in advance is essential through the National Opera House Box office.

🔹 Cultural Insights: Explore Hearn’s literary contributions. This workshop complements the Kwaidan - Encounters with Lafcadio Hearn exhibition, running at Farmleigh Gallery from March to August 2025, before heading to Osaka Expo 2025 and Ireland House in Tokyo.
