Foghlaim

Foghlaim Foghlaim assists local or indigenous NGO's in developing countries to bring about educational change.

After 11 years of volunteer work Foghlaim finished fundraising and making donations in 2017. Our partner NGOs are in Uganda, Nepal, Sri Lanka, India and Vietnam. All projects are run by, and based within, local communities. With innovative ideas, community effort, a human rights focus and access to even small amounts of funding, it is amazing to see how real change can happen.

JVF Nepal hard at work raising awareness and distributing soap ... We hope everyone stays safe and stays well ..

We also received this message from one of our former partners, JVF-Nepal, who are leading an education and awareness campaign in their area:

Namaste!

We hope this email finds you, family, friends and your loved ones safe and well. We have been thinking about you in these trying times.

In Nepal, the lockdown started on 24th March. The initial plan was for a week but now has extended (twice) till 15th April. This is likely to be extended as well. Till date only under 1500 have been tested so the infection cases on the record are also low (9 cases with one local transmission). But the experts believe that there are more infected people and will spread further. So, we are bracing for the worse.

In Jhumlawang and neighbouring villages, JVF-Nepal has been coordinating with local authorities to spread the information and work in awareness programs. Ajay Magar, Executive Director of JVF is currently in the village and have been actively involved in these activities. We are using speaker from Jhumlawang Health Center to inform about COVID-19, it’s symptoms, the precautions to take and where to go for help in the village.

On other villages too, Health Centres are using speakers. The Khabang Bagar, Bhume Rural Municipality office is ready with health workers to address any issues of the villagers. Our staff are also actively involved in spreading the information and looking after the people. Till date, we have also distributed soaps to families and made soap available on public taps to encourage washing-hands and hygiene. We are and will do our best to serve the villages and villagers in this crisis.

Meanwhile, we would like to thank you and your team for your selfless service and assistance in our aim of becoming an example village in the country. We are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers. And, we hope to see you soon in the near future.

In solidarity,

JVF-Nepal family

Hi, we hope everyone in Ireland are safe and well.. When Foghlaim was operating, it was a member of The Wheel .. We recently received a message from The Wheel about COVID-19 Community Outreach... see below and take care:

Recently, An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar announced new emergency measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 in our communities. These measures include restrictions to the movement of non-essential workers and ‘cocooning’ for the most vulnerable people in society.

In parallel with this, the government announced a series of supports that will be rolled out across the country to support those most affected. Among these supports is COVID-19
Community Outreach (CCO), which will be coordinated by The Wheel and Irish Rural Link, and funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development.

CCO will link and support the work of community and voluntary organisations across Ireland who are responding to meet the needs of communities during the COVID-19 crisis.

We have already deployed a Community Champion in each of the 26 counties. As members of your local authority’s COVID-19 forum, the Community Champions will play a key role in
coordinating local community supports.

Our champions have strong links within their local areas, existing experience of engaging with community organisations and volunteers, and are already in contact with the people
that the programme ultimately seeks to support.

If your organisation is currently supporting vulnerable people in the community, or if you are planning to do so, we urge you to contact your local Community Champion as soon as
possible.

Visit www.wheel.ie/covid-19-community-outreach

[https://www.wheel.ie/covid-19-community-outreach ] for your local Community
Champion’s details.

Let’s connect and make sure nobody gets left behind.

Kind regards,

Deirdre Garvey | CEO of The Wheel

Today 64 children graduate from Glory Be Nursery Top Class including 3 children who began their education in our special educational needs class. We couldn’t be prouder of every single one of them and we can’t wait to see them flourish in their next setting! 👩🏾‍🎓👨🏾‍🎓🎉.
Check out our stories to see the children from the whole school perform and parents, teachers and local leaders come together to celebrate their success!

What a progress in just a few weeks! The walls are getting higher and it's starting to look more and more like a new, well-build Educational Center. The boys are not standing still, and they are working everyday to make this happen!

Remember it's not too late to donate and support the project! Read more about it in the link below!
