The Waterford and Dungarvan Lions Clubs recently held their Annual Greenway Leisure Cycle in aid of the Waterford Hospice Movement.

The Waterford group started at SETU Carriganore, and the Dungarvan contingent set out from Clonea Strand. Both groups then met at the Rainbow Hall in Kilmacthomas, and chatted over tea, coffee and sandwiches. A fantastic day was had by all!

We would like to thank all who participated for making it a great day for all involved. We would also like to thank our helpers on the day, and our sponsors who helped make the day possible.

Yesterday, the Waterford Lions Club held its annual special schools outing in Tramore for St. Joseph’s and St. Martin’s special schools. The children arrived and spent time at the amusement park, and then went to O’Shea’s Hotel for lunch and a disco. A thoroughly enjoyable day was had by all!

The Waterford Lions Club wishes to thank everyone who made the day possible: Chris Piper and Michael Garland of Tramore Amusement Park, the management and staff of O’Shea’s Hotel, Curran Foods, and DJ Damien Walsh.

East meets West Greenway Cycle 2026

This year’s East meets West Greenway Cycle in aid of the Waterford Hospice Movement takes place this coming Sunday 17th May, departing from Carriganore SETU carpark and Clonea Strand between 9.30am and 10.30am. Light refreshments await in the Rainbow Hall, Kilmacthomas.

This is the 10th year that Waterford and Dungarvan Lions clubs have run the event . The cycle is suitable for casual cyclists — children are welcome but need to be accompanied by an adult. Entry fee is whatever you deem appropriate to the cause but we would suggest a minimum of €10 per adult and €20 for a family.

Every cent raised goes entirely to Waterford Hospice - event costs are minimal and are borne by both Lions clubs. So take out your Penny Farthing, High Nellie or tandem, contribute to a great cause and get some badly needed exercise!

Waterford Trees for Life volunteers planted their final tree for this season this morning at Waterpark N.S.
Despite not having any green space, one small untidy corner was found, cleared, and a ton of topsoil added.
Then 5th-class pupils planted a native Irish crab apple tree surrounded by some fragrant ground cover plants.
What an enthusiastic and engaging group of pupils. They were brilliant. A big thank you to them, the principal, and the 5th-class teacher.

Waterford Trees for Life volunteers, along with pupils from St. Paul's Community College and local residents from Lismore Park today planted an urban "Pocket Forest" of 500 young trees.
The trees and mulch were supplied by Waterford Council.
What a morning of activity. In under 2 hours, an area of approximately 1,600 square metres was planted and mulched.
The pupils were terrific, what a team we had.
A great community effort and great collaboration between Waterford Council, the local Community College, local residents, and Waterford Trees For Life volunteers.
Young and old, all working side by side.

Waterford Trees for Life partnered with SETU Forestry Department, Comhairle na nÓg, Waterford Council, and residents from Cherrymount to plant 1,000 young tree saplings on about a quarter of an acre on Council land at the bottom of Cherrymount Housing Estate.
The land beside St. John's River is very wet and not suitable for sports.
The busy Tramore Road is across the river and in time the trees will create a sound barrier from the road, as well as absorbing car fumes, and helping to dry the land and make the other green areas drier for playing on.
Not to mention all the positive biodiversity the trees will bring.
Today's planting was sponsored by Waterford Council, Altitude Cycles Waterford and Waterford Trees For Life.
Well done to all the volunteers who turned up to help this morning.

Waterford Trees for Life volunteers were joined today by 6th class pupils from St. John of God NS, Waterford City, to plant a "pocket forest" at SETU Carriganore campus. Under the watchful eye of Tom Kent (SETU Forestry Department), 150 tree saplings were planted today. The species planted were Oak, Hazel, Alder, Holly, Scots Pine, Rowan, Wild Cherry, Bird Cherry, and Crab Apple - all native Irish species.

Today's planting was in partnership with SETU Land Sciences Department and was sponsored by ABP Ireland, producers of quality Irish beef products.
Each pupil was presented with a SETU Environmental Certificate by Eleanor Kent (Head of the Department of Land Sciences at SETU)

Another small action for climate, biodiversity and nature.
The pupils were excellent workers and really enthusiastic.
Well done girls.
